The forsythias were planted long ago, maybe there were some when Mom & Dad bought this house in 1956? They've walked some 6 feet south into the sun I understand and already decided which are being renewed and which are being removed. What I don't know is how thoroughly I need to get the roots out if I'm removing. Some have giant root balls, and roots the thickness of my index finger some inches down going in several directions! Do I need to get all that out to prevent regrowth?

All that and more. If there is a whiff it will regrow. Or brush the stumps with brush killer in the fall....James
