The past few years becasue of health issue my garden isn't what it use to be..By God's Grace I'm pretty much up and at it this year and I just stand in my garden and almost cry. Weeds as high as me...got most of my raised bed started but since I went to visit family...weeds..weeds..and more weeds came to visit over that 2 week period. Now rain almost every day..so...I have been pullling in the mud and I know...I can get it done. When the family was all home my garden was 100 by 100 with extra herb garden. But, I realize that I don't or don't really want that large a garden ...Husband has his own "health" issues and even though he is great in helping..he has days when he just isn't"with" me in mind. So....I suppose I should grab my garden gloves and get myself started. One day at a time.....Wish me luck !!!! t

Can you make a plan for how much you want to grow, and plan your square footage? If you want to preserve former garden space, you can mow the currently unneeded area or whack the weeds down, pile what you weed out elsewhere on top. Add a layer of straw, or cover with garden cloth, old plastic tarps, black plastic. Think giant compost pile. With weeds that high, do check your skin carefully every day for ticks

I know exactly how you feel. I cld have cried Friday night with all that needed done here at the farm. Break it down into blocks or jobs. Knock it out one at a time. You'll get it! Good luck.

I feel ya!!! Weeds have really skyrocketed here too in the past few weeks as I been tied up with life. I've managed to steal 15 - sometimes 30 minutes a day picking beetles and hoeing weeds....which is just enough time to make a huge difference until I get a chance to get it all under control again (shortly I hope)
Hang in there...every little bit helps

Hang in there and just take a little at a time. I usually try to plan a certain amount of time each day and that keeps me on top of it. However, this year we had so much rain this spring that everything is growing twice as fast so the weeds are as tall as I am in places. I decided the other day to let the goats in the garden area that isn't used right now (this is where the weeds are as tall as I am). They ate a good bit while in there and because there was so much they didn't bother me in the rest of the garden. Now, it isn't quite so "snakey" and I can get in there with the weedeater to knock down what they won't eat.

I certainly understand that state of being overwhelmed....Yet your attitude is positive, which means you have already won! Just take it a little at a time and do not make any attempts to see the large picture...look at each bit as a single picture/event to tackle. This will create more successes to enjoy while you continue to tackle other parts. The weather here is so very hot and, with the frequent rains, my garden is overgrown as well. I made an attempt to mow the waste-high weeds and did get some mowed when I noticed a gasoline leak....OMG Now I need to find out what that is about and fix it before I mow again....always something. Still when the goal is to do only what I can without taxing my body in the heat, I'm off the hook of completing major tasks. This keeps my nerves calm, my body fairly cool and my success a constant. So, Mollycleo, let your body be your guide as to how much you do...not your past history.

I'm right there with you. Yes, you can get it weeded! Work out in the rain if you have to! We were gone for 12 days on vacation. Had 8 inches of rain while we were gone. there must be something wrong, since the garden is barely weeded over...

I agree--one row a day-, may have to do it every day-as you get to one side, start over--but this way, you limit your stress. I got my row finished, gol darn it!! older I get the more I feel that way

We are dealing with weeds also. The heat and humidity tax my heart, and I can't do much when it gets so hot and humid. Even with frequent hydration, it makes me sick. My cardiologist told me that because of my heart arrhythmia and heart murmur, high temps and me don't mix :-( so I weed when I can, in the rain if needed! Weeding in the rain is actually really nice, my glasses spot up but I stay nice and cool. If it is not raining, early morning or evening is when I like to weed. The last two days have been cooler (only in the low 80's) and not humid. We found all the tomato plants and weeded and mulched around them. We still have a kind of scary bell pepper bed to weed, it is so overgrown. And the green beans and corn need weeded and mulched. We will get to it all, bit by bit. I try not to stress, but to pick an area to weed and get it done that day. One section at a time is manageable in a day, the entire garden is not. One section at a time :-)

Take one day at a time and enjoy the beauty whether that is plants or weeds.

We had our garden all hoed and looking good before the rains came. Now the weeds are up to our knees. Guess we will have to start pulling tomorrow and just do as we can. It is nice to see the blooms on the beans. We had a late start this year. We decided to just do a few tomatoes due to some health issues but when the time comes it is just hard not to plant. Wish I could help you with your garden. I really do.

Since that was two weeks ago, I wonder if the battle was won or lost. Amazing how fast and big some weeds can grow in rich soil. I wasn't watching too closely and suddenly had lambs quarters as tall as the garlic in one bed. Loose soil so it was easy to pull. Ended up with a big pile that liked the garden so much that they'll end up back in it eventually. Ran them through a bagging mower and then into the compost tumbler.

I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one. We went on a two week vacation and when we got back I had a hard time finding my veggies amongst the weeds! I've got 3/4 of it tackled and should get the rest tomorrow. Hang in there and just take it as slow as you need, it'll work out.

With occupational work pretty much caught up with, my daughters wedding behind me, and electricity restored (6 days out) the monumental task of weeding is finally here. I filled the skid steer bucket 3 times today...but that was just from the onion patch Threads like this help keep it all in perspective though...it is what it is!

BTDT. Like the others have said, you can do it. A little at a time is the way. I have discovered the weed trimmer to be an excellent way to keep the garden under control. I love the gas one---all that power!! But, it leaves me wearing the green weeds and I have to wear hot protective clothing. I bought a less powerful, battery re-chargeable one. It's not as heavy, I don't wear the weeds, and I don't have to wear the long sleeved shirt and pants. My skirt is long and my boots cover my shins and I wear protective eye glasses. I can knock the weeds down, being careful around the plants I want to keep, and then hoe whats' left very easily. We got 3 1/2 inches of rain yesterday. And more is forecast.

I got down on my knees in our garden the other day and pulled weeds for a few hours. Do not try this if you haven't done it in awhile. I have been sore but when I look out at the garden and realize how it is growing so nice, I know it was worth it.

There are many of us like you. My gardens have been taken over by weeds for the past three years, but I weed around plants and do what I can---and somehow we get things from our garden. Not so much as when we were young and strong, but enough.
