Argh, why, oh why can I not refrain from planting my plants too early? I was so happy to finally be able to dig the ground here two weekends ago that I got carried away and set out some brassica starts. Of course, we then had a 20 F night last week ... Perhaps I'll get more patient as I get older. Or not....

Last year a late cold spell killed about 300 pepper plants and 90 some tomato plants. You would think as we get older we would learn from our mistakes, but i keep making the same mistakes every year. Well our projected last frost is 3 weeks away. So today I couldn't take it anymore. I had to put something in the dirt. I planted 2 raised beds and put the hoops over them. Well I hope they make it , but it in all likely hood they won't. I wish you the best of gardening luck this year. -Doug-

We have Broccoli,Lettuce,Cabbage and onions out in raised beds and got a frost a couple of days ago. We covered everything but the onions and everything made it through the night.
The fruit trees were starting to bloom and I hope it didn't hurt them.

That must have been painful... but thanks for sharing this- I feel better knowing I'm not the only one. I hope for better luck this year for both of us.

I had the same thing here the other night. I covered up everything but the cabbage thinking that they would survive. Wrong!!!
It only went down to 28F here, which I thought the cabbage would survive. About half will have to be replaced. Live and learn!!! And spend more money on frost blankets.
I did save the peas, recently seeded pole beans, lettuce, chard, etc.
I hate buying plants from the nurseries. Would rather raise my own.

300 onion sets are in the ground! That's less than 1/3 of what I'll eventually get planted, but it was all hubby brought me today

Like I said elsewhere ... I use a LOT of onions. I dehydrate the majority of it and use in soups, et al and a good portion goes for onion powder that my grown children always ask for.
