I recall plowing a mule when I was a boy. That 10 acre cornfield was so big it seemed to take forever to ever get it done. The mule knew better than me I reckon, cause when we got near to being done them rows got shorter over in the corner of the field. It wasn't exactly square. when we would get over in that part of it, the mule would get a lively step and quit dragging around. She knew we was in the short rows and it would be quitting time soon. Ready for her 15 ears of corn, peanut hay, and a tub of cold well water.
That's the way I got this morning. The peas and beans are all in, the two rows of sweet corn is finished, butternut squash and them zucchini have produced and quit blooming and thank the lord for that. I got a bate of them this year. So all I'm doing now is taking what it gives and I wish it would give out sooner than later. She got that doe in the headlight look when I came in with another 5 gal bucket of tomatoes, 1 and a half 5 gal buckets with crook necks, bells, sweet banana, jalapenos, okra and cherry tomatoes. I told her it wasn't over til its over, and She said take it over there and give it to the church's food pantry because She wasn't going to spend the 4th of July with it. So I did. That's a sure sign I'm in the short rows with this garden. I like that.
