We've had temps in the upper 90s and a dome of high pressure is parked right over us and shows no signs of moving any time soon. We've been working outside trying to do things we normally do, but the high pressure is making it seem like a pressure cooker out there. I'm counting the days until the Oct. 1. We usually have a temperature break around that time.

Yesterday we hit 103. That's not the norm for my area at all. And we usually can count on a cool breeze coming off the Columbia river by about 4pm. I didn't get the slightest draft until after 8:30 last night.
I was cranky all day. The heat was bad, but not getting my normal work load done was the real bugger. Today I got up a little after 4am and headed out. All you can do is try to work around the worst part of the heat. I was milking cows around 11pm last night. I don't think they even minded the change in routine. It was just so much more comfortable for all of us.

You are not alone, if that helps. Hot and humid and rainy pretty much describes our summer. We had more rainfall this summer than has ever been recorded, since 1871. The combination of constant rain and heat makes it miserable to work outside and the ground is a big swampy, muddy mess. I have no idea how anyone will get their hay in this year. Cattle farmer behind us usually has 100+ big round bales up by now, and he's got 18. Fields have gone to weeds because it's too wet to hay and the ground is too soft even to get the tractors out just to cut it. It's like being stuck inside during the winter, only worse.

It has been a cool and very rainy summer here. That is kind of unusual for us. I can commiserate with all of you. I hate hot weather. Hope you all get some relief soon.

Hot and humid here. Work starts early in the morning outside and then it is inside by 9:30 or so. Got in the car yesterday and temp said 109 outside. Heat indexes have regularly been over 100 lately. Hottest summer in several years. It is miserable.

cold and wet here, 7-15 degrees under normal, I would like a little bit of your heat, though not all, I would fry.

Here in Alabama we are just getting started good...August is usually hotter than July! The water in the pool is so warm it is like taking a warm bath...not refreshing at all. Would love some of your cool weather, but don't think I could handle the winter. Blessings, Kat

I don't know if we got quite as hot as you, but it was at least in the upper 90's that day and not a breath of wind, even though we were right on the banks of the Cowlitz.. There wasn't a thermometer at the fairgrounds, so we had to rely on what folks would tell us it was at their house before coming to the fair, and they left their homes before noon (95-96 degrees then). Made for a rather miserable day and put a dent in the attendance, I'm sure. It was sure nice to get a few cooler days this week, but I see we are headed back up before long. This has been the hottest and driest summer I can ever remember for our area.

Been hot and dry here. I'm feeding hay already because the pastures are burned up. Only being able to have the animals out on only pasture for just 2 months is gonna hurt. We have very little pasture left. And are feeding hay too here in NE Washington state. I will be starting to look for more hay to buy. Not enough to make it through the winter. Sigh!

You know, it's either pouring buckets of rain and making mud or it's dry as the devil without a blade of green in sight. I bought an extra 180 bales of hay this time and I'm already feeding it out to my dairy girls. I was hoping to hold off a bit longer but no such luck. At least my veggies are doing great.

I guess the one thing I am thankful for is that we are getting enough rain with all this heat. It has rained twice this week. However, it makes it feel like we are living in the amazon and the bugs are AWFUL this year. Take care and keep cool.

I fought the sun and the sun won.....LOL...the tomatoes are mostly dried up and withering in spite of watering with rain water.....no zukes left...the okra is piddling around, very few coming back on, figure we will turn the critters into the garden and let them feast on what is left of it......

Hot again here today and tomorrow, calling for 100 today, 90+ tomorrow. Yesterday was mid 90s. Late week drop into the high 70's. No chance of rain for the next 10 days. Had to water last night, again this morning. Glad there isn't a lot left other than daily use garden. 3 tomatoes, swiss chard, kitchen garden, 1 zucchini, 1 cucumber, 4' row of beans every other day, the flowers in pots need water every day, usually. Been a warm, dry summer here, dry spring and we are seeing records broken. The water master has turned off all water rights, irrigation from the rivers is over. A good friend with a nursery had to have his fall sale 2 months early, no water. People have been delivering water to him from their wells. I have donated 6000 gallons from my spring. I see no loss of flow yet. Cities are worried if it is a dry fall and if we don't see rains until Nov, many will be hurting, water restrictions all around. Well levels getting lower, reservoirs low. My spring fed ditch has never been dry, it is now. Using spring water to keep the fish passage wet, spawning pools full, directed the microhydro generator and aquaponics water over there, instead of out to the drainage pond. Still have the sprinkler running in the pasture but not 24/7 anymore, 3-24 hr sets a week now. Will see if need to set up the pump from the pond to keep water in the fish passage and to water the gardens and pasture. Have only had to run it once, way back in the last "drought". Then we could turn off the microhydro, we have enough solar for our needs....James

Thursday there's a 50% chance of rain with a high of 89 degrees. (How does one make the degree symbol).

I know there's a way to make the degree symbol - Cabin Fever posted the how to on the "other site" - but I just end up using the * symbol bacause it's quick and easy.
It was 96* here today. Tad warm for my tastes.

On regular computers ALT167 is a degree sign. On IPads press and hold the zero and the degree sign will pop up, just slide your finger up and grab it.

Cooler here today. 72° this morning and 98° right now. As long as the lows will stay in the 70s rather than the 80s, plants and animals (and humans) all do better.

Down right COLD here in Wisconsin! Feels like November. Usually at this time of year it is uncomfortably HOT! Cold is right. I don't think we got much above 50 degrees today, with off and on rain. And not so off and on blustery wind. Seems like just last week we were pushing 90 degrees. Oh wait - that WAS last week. The weather's been pretty strange lately.

Thanks for the picture Willowgirl. It's been oppressively hot and humid here all week. Woke up to rain last night that has continued all day. Tomorrow should be less humid and 80. That's pretty much the forecast through Monday. Although I am thankful for the rain, we are about 7" below normal so far this year, I think it's too late to bring the garden back, but we'll see.
Even with the rain, the chickens are outside enjoying the cooler temps and I have to admit, I didn't mind getting wet while I was running errands today!
