I know to some of you, this isn't a very bright question. But, can gas be put in a can that previously held kerosene?

Simple answer is: yes.
The more complex one is: maybe, but likely not legally.
What color is the can in question? If it's blue, than there is a problem coming up.
If you plan on taking said 'blue' can to the self-serve gas station, you might want to re-consider; if you get caught, the fine is far more than whatever the gas is worth.
But the chances of actually getting caught.....ehhhh...guess it just depends.

Got any brush piles to burn?
Way safer than using gasoline.

My suggestion is either put in another can or in a glass jug if you can put jug where it wont get knocked over or broken. Then use if for lamp or on brush pile. If you simply have zero use for it, put some dry grass or shredded paper or something organic that will soak up kerosene, in metal container, pour in the kerosene and light it up. Dont want to pour kerosene or any petroleum where it soaks into ground.
Machines have gotten so delicate anymore that you wouldnt want to try on anything modern, but back in the day I would just poured it into tractor gas tank or pickup gas tank. Enough gas that it would be so diluted as to not make any noticable difference. There used to be farm tractors way, way back that came from factory so you start them up on gasoline, then when they warmed up, switch over to 100% kerosene which at the time was much cheaper. Modern stuff, its just not worth taking any risk, too expensive to fix if something goes wrong.

I just use a metal pan to burn off waste fuel...
Or if I have something to burn I use it there.

Googled if kerosene and gas could be used together. As some of you said, no. After pouring out kerosene, how do I clean interior of gas can to eliminate kerosene?

Swish it around and around a few times with a little gasoline, that will cut the kerosene.
