I have two old wooden windows (6 over 6) that I am not replacing. I am in the process of scraping the paint off and plan on sanding the wood (fair condition - from the 50's). Will buy paint tomorrow.
My question is: Latex or oil. I am not concerned about brush clean up. I am concerned about the longest lasting and not having to do this again as I am 71. AND if it has to be done again, which is the easiest to paint over??
BTW: scraping off the old paint, I think it was latex. Wood appears to be in fair to poor condition.
Can I use Durham's WATER PUTTY to fill in the old/split wood with a couple long chunks out on the sill edge, then sand before I put on a primer? Or something else or 2 coats of paint?
This is getting more complicated than I originally thought....
Never had Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, but this may be the onset.

I'd use a good oil based exterior enamel

Not much oil base paint left. Latex is easier, all I use anymore. I like water base solid color stains, lets the wood breath. Paint needs a good primer, if any bare wood....James
