Looking at the forecast for my area, SW WA, it looks like we are in for a stormy day tomorrow (Friday). Possibility of rain tonight is 50% and 90% all day tomorrow with thunder and lightning. I sure hope we do get the rain, especially if there is going to be lightning. There are enough fires burning already. We don't need dry lightning!

I hope you get lots of rain. On Friday and Saturday we (BC) are supposed to be getting a little bit of rain from the same system that's coming up through Washington. Lordy, lordy I sure do hope so, I wish it would rain steady for at least week. We're supposedly going to be getting the lightning too, we could do without that though because it will just mean more fires. Everyone is getting sick of these temperatures in the 90's or higher and it seems like a couple of new wildfires starts up somewhere every day. We were in stage 2 water restrictions for 2 months and then it went to stage 3 water restrictions last month and now there is some fear we could be going into stage 4. If that happens they're saying it's likely we'll stay at stage 4 restrictions until November at least. It's unprecedented, this kind of heat and drought has never happened in this part of the continent before, not in known history and not evident in any archeological findings going back the past 13 thousand years.
It sure is sad seeing all the trees stressed and dropping their leaves and all the other vegetation dying in a location that is normally lush, healthy and emerald green year round. Fish are dying too, also something along the coast is killing grey whales and orcas now. There's been 21 dead washed up in Alaska in the past month and 4 washed up in BC in the past week. The scientists are testing the carcasses now for bacteria to see if it might have anything to do with "the blob" that's been killing so much other marine life along the west coast from California to Alaska for the past few months.
This is one year I would be very happy for a long, snowy winter to put in an appearance, it would be nice after not having a real winter here for the past 4 years in a row .

Here's praying that you gets lots of rain and very little lightning, just one of those good heavy soaker rains that lasts several hours.

I am excited and nervous for the rain as well. We were going to do a yard sale today, but I don't mind having a rainy day experience instead since it has been so long. I also hope the lightning is minimal. Everything is so dead and dry, even in town.

I do love a good thunderstorm with lots of thunder and and colorful lightning. That's something that I miss where we live now. Lots of rain, but none of the thunderstorms that should go with it. But true, I always forget about the danger of the lightning when the environment is so dry.
For me, I just hope the rain holds off until we get our chicken butchering done. We've postponed it the last 2 weeks and now I'm just pouring dollars into the feeders every time I go out there.
It would be nice to get a good storm after we're done. The air always smells so good after a hard rain.

I couldn't sleep last night (insomnia), so I finally fell asleep around 8am and slept until 4pm. I woke up to wet ground, but have no idea if we had any lightning! It's rained off and on since, mostly off. I was hoping for a steady rain all day long, but I'll take whatever I can get. It smells good right after a shower, but then the smoke smell is back...I think we must be getting wind from the east, where the Mt Adams fire is. There have been a few smaller fires a bit north of us, but I think they are out or nearly so. barefootfarmer, did you get the butchering done? kawaiitimes, did you get the rain, too, or did you hold a garage sale? Either one sounds like a good day!

We put off the garage sale in anticipation of the rain. It finally came around 2pm all in one short burst. It was pretty anti-climactic.

No! We set everything up under a canopy and will be heading out early in the morning. One daughter moved out yesterday and today into her first apartment and our other daughter needed help with some errands before leaving for China in a couple of weeks. I'm going to be butchering mini turkeys by the time we're done. I hope it doesn't make the meat tough.
