My mom had such an accident when I was young. The weight made a hole in the ceiling, the lid a gouge in a wall 15 feet away. The food she was cooking was so embedded around the walls and ceiling it could not be scrubbed off. We ended up sanding it down and repainting.

I saw this earlier today on another website! The only thing that makes me wonder if it was staged is there is no food sprayed around anywhere, no broken glass seems to be anywhere either. If this was truly a canning session that went bad it seems like these things would be in the pic.
My husband and sons think perhaps someone let it build up too much pressure on purpose and then took the pic after.

The lack of food items embedded into the ceiling make me doubt the honesty of this photo.
That and the fact that once the lid has been blown off the pot, there is nor real pressure in the pot to speak of and therefor nothing to force the pot downward through the top of the stove.
My vote is for a staged photo...

It does look like there are flecks of something on the ceiling. There's some sort of schmutz in front of the sink in the foreground, too. But I can't help but wonder, with all the safety valves on canners these days, how this could possibly happen? Could it have been a really old canner that was left unsupervised?
Seems to me you'd have to bend over backwards doing stoopid to make this type of wreck happen.

I had a little tiny incident this year. Never had it before. I hadn't pressure canned anything for a week or so and when I put the lid on a load, the gasket fell out of place and didn't let the canner seal. Eventually, I figured out it wasn't going to pressureize and decided to open the canner. DUMB. I didn't think it had any pressure it in since it was leaking out the sides, etc....and when I slid that lid just a little bit....boom....it popped right off and almost jumped out of my hand. Scared the life out of me almost. Well, I fixed the gasket and then couldn't get the lid to go back on.
SAFETY ALERT! let the canner cool down before you mess with it!
I thought I'd warped the lid. But, when it finally cooled, all was well. Except my new heart condition. I learned a good lesson.
