I've never smelled anything so wonderful. Of course, I had to run out and put the windows up on the Sport, but it felt good to run through the rain to do it. It's been so dry for so long, and teh whole PNW needs rain so badly, and now it's supposed to rain for days. AAAAhhhhh, bliss.

Took awhile to get here, but at 3:00 a.m.-ish this morning, lightning and its attendant thunder woke me through the skylight. I thought, oh, no, and got up to make sure there were no nearby strikes as well as to check on the old Border Collie, who was enduring his first thunderstorm as an indoor dog. I wanted to make sure I still had an intact mud room! (Not that the mud room has been getting much of a workout lately!) The dog was fine, and I stepped outside to look at tree tops. We were getting a nice, steady slightly heavy rain! I threw all the windows open and savored the scent of a gazillion mushroom spores awakening to do their thing. I hope we get more!

Did you get the big wind storm with it too? You must have gotten some of the wind, you are so close to me and we're getting rain from the same system.
The rain is a blessing, we got more rain in one day today than what we've had in 4 months and more to come over the next 6 days. I wouldn't mind if it lasted a couple of weeks and put out all these fires in the PNW.
But the wind that has come with it up here has knocked over so many drought weakened trees. They are all BIG trees and the fallen trees fell on houses, cars, across streets, railway tracks, on pedestrians and knocked out hydro for 500,000 right around noon (myself included but I got my hydro back at 4:30). I haven't seen a windstorm like that since the big one in the early winter of 2006. More high wind is forecast to come on Sunday but supposedly not as bad as on Saturday. I think that wind took the meteorologists by surprise because they were NOT forecasting wind on Friday night.
Also, we had 2 shallow earthquakes here yesterday too and I'm convinced the drought conditions are causing them.
The giant sunflowers I had growing all got uprooted and downed in the wind, they are toast now, but that was the only damage done in my yard so I can't complain. Looking forward to more rain.

We got the wind here today - knocked out the power for most of the day, and the trees were swaying and cracking. I have one tree that is held up by the surrounding trees - it has a vertical split from the ground to at least 10-15 feet up the tree. When the wind blows hard, the split opens and closes like a bellows as the tree sways. Very odd to watch - you'd think it's coming down, and then it runs into one of its support trees and goes back the other way.
As I'm writing this, it is absolutely pouring rain outside - I hope some of it makes it to the east side. We do have some fires here on the west side, and I'm glad we are getting the soaking needed to put them out, once and for all!

Wonderful news. I'm so happy for all impacted by this terrible fire. I hope the rain does put it out and helps to clear the air

Very good news indeed! After this summer, with such horrible droughts and fires in the USA, I will *never* complain about a wet spring/summer again. As I was complaining, huge swathes of our country was begging for rain. I am, quite appropriately, humbled now. I apologize for my earlier arrogance and ignorance.
