terrilynn I'm tagging you because I know you make apple butter in your roaster.
I'm getting set to make apple butter tomorrow. I want to make it in my electric roaster(s).
Here's my plan:
Rinse off the apples. Chop them in halves or quarters (just like when I do the tomatoes)
Toss in roaster and cook on 250 overnight.
Next day, run through the electric food mill.
Put the sauce back into the roaster, add whatever spices I find in a recipe.
Cook on low until...it looks like apple butter?
Should I add water when they are still in the halves and quarters stage?
Then water bath can. Any tweaking that you think I should do?
I found this recipe and I might adapt it for the roaster
4lbs apples, cut in halves
41 cup apple cider vinegar
2cups water
1 cup of sugar per cup of apple sauce made
salt
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp allspice
You are supposed to bring to a boil, then simmer the apples in the vinegar & water til soft.
