Just got a new kitten about 4-5 weeks old (also got his mother on loan since he's not weaned) Mother is a barn cat she'll eat anything, literaly anything from tomatos and chips to mice and anything she can steal. Since I have two dogs on raw I want the kitten to be as well, does the kitten need the same % organs bones and meat as the dogs? I've read a lot on adding Taurine, some people say no point others say you MUST. Reasons given seem to be taurine decays in minced meat (I don't mince the meat) and how much is a cat likely to eat per day? my 42lb dog eats 1lb a day and the 16lb dog eats 1/2 lb but what will a 5-6lb cat eat?! I don't want to stuff him, he is meant to grow into our rodent control afterall. I'm asking on amounts as we're going to the abatoir on wendnesday and I cut and pack everything before it goes into the freezer, 100lb fresh animal insides is a lot nicer to deal with than 100lb frozen!

I’d start with chicken wings, cutting them into 3 pieces and giving the kitten one piece at a time. The kitten will just gnaw on the wing, but he’ll get the idea that it’s food. A hunting mother cat will bring prey to the nest. If the cat isn’t hunting, buy or catch a mouse or two and give that to the kitten so he learns what he should be hunting for. Make sure the fleas have all left the mouse before giving it to the kitten. I’d also give little bits of organ meat, again because cats are so finicky that you have to introduce to them what is “food” or they will turn their noses up. As time goes on, give bits of fish and what ever other meat you’ll be giving the kitten when he’s grown.
You shouldn’t need to add taurine, it is naturally in raw meat, but research. We had a cat that we got at age four. He hunted moles and mice, but never ate them.
