I went to my high school class reunion last week-end and it reminded me of an idea I had several years ago. So I decided to renew the idea and have it done for the next reunion. Lots of time!! (10 years) A quilt made in a crossword style with all of our names on them. Small class, less than 80 people.
Our school colors were orange and black and we were the Pirates. However, our class colors were purple and silver, flower was purple iris and we had a class motto. I want to do it in the purple/silver colors but still give a nod to the school colors/Pirates.
The center will have the school name, year graduated, year of reunion, memories and friends, and Pirates in it. Then a border around it and then all of our first names in crossword style all connected together. And then another border for the outside. All the squares will be 3".
Both borders will be black, and then appliqué in the silver, our names, onto purple squares. The rest of the squares would be a mix of tone on tone purples.
I need to somehow get orange into this without it looking awkward. Just really want a small amount.
So my thoughts were: appliqué Pirates in Orange but it will be connected to the school name because it starts with a P. Too much orange maybe?? Or maybe put a small orange star by the names of the classmates who have passed away?? But not sure orange, purple and silver all on one 3" square would look good. Guess I would need to just start playing with the fabric and see? Maybe just an odd orange square here and there mixed with the tone on tone purples?
Any other thoughts on how I might get small amounts of orange in without it looking bad.
