I don't know how it could happen when a horse is on Dex at the same time. Rolling eyes in sarcasm. Oh well. I pulled the stitches. With pus dripping down the forceps. Yuck. But what a patient girl as I pulled hard enough to get the stitch out of the pus to see where to cut. The other stiches were easier to see. Scrubbed off with Betadine. (Note to me- get more.) No fever and the site is a spot that should drain well. So hopefully no antibiotics. But I will be taking a temperature and cleaning it daily.

That was a non starter. The second site has double overnight. Off to the vets to pick up anti-biotics.

Rats and double-rats for infection. I hope the antibiotics clear it all up and it's all good news going forward.

Stand back- incoming whine.
Due to non horse stuff to did not get to the vet's until 2:30 pm. Came back with oral antibiotics, antihistamine powder, probiotic. Met the water system repair guy and walked back and forth with him to arrange a repair. Back to the house to get Tess to treat her. Then mixed the antibiotic in a large catheter syringe with molassas and gave it in several batches (what a good, cooperative girl she is), scrubbed her biopsy sites, gave her the antihistamine in another syringe, then an apple as a reward. I was supposed to pull the stiches but it was too dark by then, even with all the lights on, to find tiny blue stiches, under a belly, so tomorrow. Then clean paddocks, feed goats and horses.
Get back in the house at 7:30 and plopped into the chair. I know I should get something to eat but I just can't work up the energy. STAND BACK- incoming whine.... I'm getting so old. Dang.

whine away, when things like this pile up, we all deserve a whine with our cheese. Hopefully things will get back on track real fast.

I think things are- at least for me. Maybe Tess too. The vet came out because I had shown her some pictures of the biopsy site and she got worried about how it looked. She scrubbed it off, decided that it looked good enough that Tess only needed 5 days of antibiotics rather than seven. She pulled the stitches on the other site which had closed. On one of the stitches she accidently snipped both side under the knot and a piece of the thread slipped into the skin. It had to be rooted for to get it out. Tess proved her good nature again when she only lifted her head and her eye widened in response to the pinching. Even the vet praised her disposition. Said most horses would have at least lifted a leg by this time. I must say I feel good having the vet look at it again. Sometimes the owner needs the attention as much as the horse.

To see what was causing the massive spread of crusty sores. She was chewing herself raw.

Ok-ish. Just got a call from the vet to pick up her shots. I can tell she is rubbing on things but not chewing on herself. Strange for this time of year but fly spraying her helps. Can there be oak mites in the hay?

Hope your girl is feeling some better, getting some itching relief. I hate when they get something like this that is so hard to provide full comfort for:-(
