Oh these are gorgeous, Wendy, - each has its own special qualities. Thanks for letting us see them. Successful quilting is mainly a question of accurate cutting, careful pinning and a good quarter-inch foot on your machine. Sure, there are some fancy/tricky patterns but most of the time they're just straight stitching. You can even follow the likes of some well-known quilters, including those that like a modern theme, and do away with the accurate cutting (wonky cutting, I call it) - the quilts still turn out beautifully. A lot of people also get tied up in knots over the use of colour, but that's also an easy one to sort if you look to nature and how colours/values/quantities are used there. Can't go wrong with following nature, really. So stop thinking yourself out of it and just "do" - but beware... with every quilter also goes a level of deceit and cunning, as in how many different ways can you sneak fabric into the house without it being noticed, and how straight-faced can you be when you say "pfff, that old fabric - had it for AGES!" A week is a long time in a quilter's life,LOL.

Wendy...you can do those! I taught/teach beginning quiltmaking. The first quilt is just half-square triangles. The star one could be done with either flying geese or half-square triangles...and the other two are just rectangles and squares. You got this!

I have a hard time getting things to line up. I know mine would not look near as good.

Wendy, you could do any one of those in no time! One thing to remember is that we are our own worst critics.

Wendy, the more you do it, the better you will get at it. just make sure you square up your half square triangles and they will line up much better. Have you ever used Thangles (HST paper). They almost guarantee success!

When things don't line up, just run with it. Crazy Quilts are still a thing - my mom and grandma make them with whatever fabric they have laying around. This is not one of their quilts, but does look along the lines of some of the stuff they put together. My mom just gets a sheet in the size she wants her quilt to be and pins fabric pieces to it. Then she zig-zag stitches the fabric to the sheet. The person in the picture here added some ribbon embellishments to theirs which is a nice touch.
