My dog was hit by the train yesterday, she's probably the luckiest dog alive, broken five teeth, but nothing else broken (that the vet could see) She can't jump, toilet trips hurt her (squatting) and she's obviously in a lot of pain (even through the pain meds) She was with us sniffing the kittens and less than 2 minutes later we heard the train horn sound continusly and her whining. the train actually stopped (it's a two carrage train that drives about 30mph where we are) and later in the evening someone came round from the company to ask about her, apparently they killed another dog less than 600ft down the line the day before, makes me think they've run over something and the dogs want at it.

Shudder- poor dog. Does anything need to be done about the teeth?
I had a dog that got out once and got hit by a car. The vet xrayed her and checked her over but didn't find anything. She was very sore. The next day I found a small wound where her front leg met her body. The vet had not seen it as it was tucked away. It took a few days for her to recover and she aways had a knot on her ribs where that wound was but she was fine fairly soon.

The canine might be savable bust she's snapped off the top incisors at the gum, they'll all have to come out, (so that's 7 teeth not 5 isn't it) Vet says to leave her a week before bringing her back to have them removed, she did find three small cuts each on a different leg, but she's had worse chasing after her ball, right now I'm a little worried about her tail, hoping it's just bruised but she's not moving it at all, not even when she goes to the toilet. will get them to check on it if it's still like that when she goes in for the teeth. For once the accident was actually in vet opening hours, so got her down there about 30 mins after it.

If you had seen poor Penzoil after her accident, you would have thought she was at death's door. Body stiff, head down, tail tucked, walked with itty bitty, tottering steps. But after about 4 days things got better fast. I hope your girl recovers just as fast.

Ouch! Poor thing. My border collie ran into a car when he was a puppy. Took him in for x-rays, vet said he was fine. But, he did develop arthritis in one hip, which I think was from that accident. Give your pup vitamin C to aid in healing, 1/8 teaspoon of granulated C is a low dose. GIve it to him every day for a couple of weeks, then you can go down to every other day, then once a week.
Thompson C buffered crystals.

Poor pup. I hope she heals up well. Dogs are amazing at healing up after major wrecks.
My Catahoula has been hit twice. Once a truck ran her all the way over, crushed both hips and her pelvis. Thanks to a devoted Orthopedic surgeon and lots of friends who made donations to help offset the cost, Talley recovered well. She will always walk a little funny, but she is one heck of a ranch dog and is out all day taking care of stuff:-) The second time she was hit, she and my other ranch dog both ran after a truck passing our house. Both dogs got rolled, Talley was worse off than Pal. I thought we might lose her on that deal, I wasn't sure if she had erred her pelvis or what, but again she rebounded and is fine. Goofy mutt.

If her tail doesn't recover immediately, just give it time. It was months before my grandma's cat was able to control her tail again after she got hit by a car (the cat, not my grandma!) - but it did happen.

I hope she's improving too. A train is a lot of impact. I had a dog who got her tail caught in a closing garage door. The vet said there was nothing to be done for it. But it was so bad to watch. You'd say 'aw poor baby', she'd wag her tail in response and yelp. Eventually healed with a knot in it.

She was at the vet again today to have the teeth removed, I saw the xray on her tail. two vertabrae smashed right up the top, and damage lower down, can already see she has better control of it than when she first did it. Now we get a tiny little wag, and she can lift it a bit higher to pee. She's a very unhappy dog at the moment, and I have to go back to the Uk on Sunday so she's without her mother for a few days as well. Should be in less pain soon though, also saw the xray of her mouth, one of the teeth hadn't been broken it had been rammed right back up inside the jaw, that really must have hurt.

Well she's had to go back to the vet, she got all of her stitches out, so he's had to redo them, and she's on a liquid diet for two weeks.

No, it's stitches in her mouth where the teeth were taken out, so no way to stop her fiddling with it!
