For the first time in a few years it's become fall like in fall. So maybe snow this year. Have only had a dusting over the winter in the last two years.

Have had several downpours here during the night...have not read the rain gauge yet....all I kept thinking about was that I have a bag of cat litter in the back of my pickup and it will be all soggy....LOL

grannyg, oh, yuck! Nothing like clay slime....but at least it's not USED cat litter in the back of your truck, lol. No snow in our forecast, but the rain has been coming down in buckets, with plenty more on the way. Talk of flash flood warnings in the area. Thankfully, I have no where to be, and our home sits well above the river. It does annoy my cat, though...she hates going out in the rain even more than do I!

mollymckee, did you get any snow? A couple friends of mine from the east side posted pics of snow falling on them...mostly just a dusting, though.

We got about a half inch, that stuck to the ground until about noon yesterday. We are at about 3000 feet, not too much lower they got a dusting that didn't last long. I'm really hoping that we get lots of snow, we need the moisture so much. I know that's not what is predicted, but they are usually wrong! I'd rather have dryer snow than rain, but I guess I can't be picky.

mollymckee, we are supposed to get between .25 and .5 inch of rain tonight. We got a trace of snow on Thursday. A better chance next weekend. We are praying for lots of snow this winter. I think four feet would be wonderful.

It started raining here about an hour ago, we are supposed to get fairly heavy rain tonight. We might have snow by mid- week at elevation. Some years we are above the snow line and others below it. One year it was actually raining in back of our house and snowing in front! It is amazing how much more snow our DD gets some years than we do. She is a mile from us and 100 feet higher.

mollymckee, It's been raining here off and on much of the day - currently coming down fairly hard. When Annie Cat came in, she let me know how displeased she was with having been outside today, forced to become WET <shudder>! She'd currently hunkered down on the bed at my feet, clean, dry and reasonably happy with her lot again, lol. Where I grew up, there was a definite snow line on the hill - you always knew where the rain was going to turn to snow. This was much lower elevation - about 200-300' elevation. We were at 500' and on the north side of the hill. We got so much snow most years. I'm at the same elevation here, but get much less snow. I get colder, but it's drier. I'm in a rain shadow, I think. I just want to look up at the mountains and see WHITE! I was talking to my sister tonight and she was talking about possibly needing to head home through the Gorge midweek, as the forecast for the passes is for snow. Yay!

After several years with lots of snow - including setting a snowfall season record two years ago - the unseasonably warm weather has kept us surprisingly snow-less. Is that even a word? Snow-free, maybe? Last year in the month of November, we had 35 inches of snow. This year? 3 inches for that month. The little bit of snow on the ground from last week is going away fast. And while I can't say I'm sorry we haven't had to clear the snow off the roof once yet this winter season, when you live in an area that hosts the world championship snowmobile derby each year - and has a big winter tourism economy that's dependent on snow - yes there actually is such a thing as too little snow. For the next few months, I'd like to see snow. I'm crossing my fingers for it. But by April? I'm pretty much OVER snow.

Like any guest, snow is very entertaining and appreciated when it first arrives. Is there anything prettier than snow on evergreens or more fun than an impromptu snowball fight? But the at some point, the snow looks grungy, the extra work gets old and the snowballs turn more into slushballs. Then I'm done but, like guests, snow doesn't always know when the party's over..

When my daughter was stationed in Colorado, I thought that that was the best kind of snow. It fell, was beautiful ( especially with the mountains!), then just POOF and it was gone. The air was so dry that it evaporated before it got all dirty and slushy. The best of both worlds! Kathy

There are some weather forecasts saying we are going to get snow by the end of the week. I hope they are right, maybe I'll feel like Christmas.

It was 63 here today and lovely. Supposed to get into the low to mid 70's this next week. We are hoping we DON'T get more rain for at least a couple of weeks. Thanksgiving night we got a whopping 10 inches of steady, heavy rain. We are in north central Texas and that much rain about drowned us here. Thankfully our house is on a little hill. We have major run-off erosion that will need to be repaired before spring, and we will need at least three of us on dozers to get all the work done.
On a funny note, I was walking our bottom pond pasture this morning. Our big pond has high banks on the west side, but even that didn't stop it from overflowing on Thanksgiving night. I followed the water flow route, and half way out in my pasture sat a lone wood duck lure...facing west and ready to travel again should we get another big rain someday. It looked pretty lonely out there all by itself!! I just laughed and kept going. We had so much rain! That was not the first big storm, last spring we had a ton of run-off issues with all of the rain we got. Our ranch really took a beating.

50 degrees and raining in squalls here all day, as well as very windy. I think we've hit a temporary lull, as I don't hear the wind chimes, but I'm sure that won't last. So far the power had stayed on, so that's a blessing, anyway.
I'd love to have some snow, but it doesn't look like it's in the forecast for the coming week, at least. Rain and wind, yes, snow, no.

It has been raining most of the day here. We would have a lot of snow if it wasn't so warm. We need the snow pack so badly for summer water in the rivers. They are talking about winds with gusts in the 60 mph range tomorrow and Wednesday. There were about 300,000 homes without electricity with the 70 mph winds a couple of weeks ago. While the power is on, some of it is pretty patched and there are lots of trees that are cracked and broken or loose in the ground. There are poles just hanging on as well. We may loose power in a wide area if the forecast is right---but maybe they are wrong! No power, getting colder and snow, not a good forcast.

mollymckee, your area really got hammered by the last big wind, so I'm joining you in hoping the power stays on, and the wind doesn't get as bad as forecast. We had a "wind alert" a few days ago here, and I think we had a couple good gusts the whole time - mostly missed us. Hope you get the same.

I saw the forecast for wind the next couple days for both you and me. Sure hope they miss the forecast. We live in a valley between two mountains so it takes special conditions for us to get much wind up here. Damaging winds normally are out of the north or northeast. And the wind normally comes from the west or southwest. But all of our power lines are above ground and run through the forests. I should fill a few buckets with water just in case. And I need to refill our gas cans. We have several empty ones. Also need to get some more fuel stabilizer. My to do list never seems to get shorter.

We live on a ridge between two mountains, about 1000 feet above the valley. We get pretty strong winds, usually higher that the airport gets. Our power lines are underground the last mile on our road. But we are the end of the line so if it goes down anywhere, we're out. There are so many damaged houses in Spokane, I really hope the wind doesn't happen.

There is major flooding in Portland, and minor flooding in the Longview/Kelso area right now, and although the rain has eased for now, we have several more systems coming in throughout the week. Wish I could stay home, but I have several days this week that I have to be in town. Hoping I can get to everywhere I need to go without any detours.

Due to my neighbor coming over with his chain saw, the thirty foot length of redwood that came down the night before last is now in pieces and ready to be dragged into the woods. However the ground is so muddy, there is no chance of getting even a four wheel drive down there so it will mean cutting it up into smaller pieces and carting it off it bits as I can. Of course I have to clear the first one the came down to use the path into the woods. Rain is ok but wind.... not so good when you live in the woods.

Sorry to hear about all the heavy winds and rain that everyone seems to be having.
The weather here has been milder than usual, with little rain. Today was 54, and the temps are expected to be in the mid 60's over the weekend.
According to the weatherman, we won't have any seasonal weather until Dec 20, when it looks like winter will come in with below normal temps. I wonder if the cold will last for Christmas? I guess our chance of having a white Christmas is probably 0.

We did get wind gusts of60+ mph, but escaped major damage. The sustained winds were not as high as the last storm but if your roof is a tarp with a tree still on your house it must still be a problem. One thing we noticed in areas where there were lots of down trees is that the areas were irrigated. It seemed that the tree roots were not anywhere as big as you would expect. Many of the trees tipped over, roots and all.
I hope those that have had the wind, floods, or mud and rock slides are all safe without any significant damage!

Today there is expected to be flooding along coastal areas due to very high tides, wind blowing large waves onshore (heard that 30 footers are expected) and all the rain. The news was trying to harangue the public into not going out on the rocks to experience the surf. But every year a few people get washed out to sea doing just that. The news said that even normally safe parking lots coukd experience flooding.
