This one always works fairly well for me. It should work as well on the you as the dog. Mix together: 1 quart of 3-percent hydrogen peroxide (available at any pharmacy) 1/4 cup baking soda 1 teaspoon liquid dishwashing soap Wearing rubber gloves, wash your dog with this solution immediately after she's been sprayed. DO NOT get the solution in her eyes. (If you don't have peroxide, baking soda, and liquid soap on hand, use vinegar diluted with water.) Caution: Do NOT store this mixture or make it ahead of time, as the mixture could explode if left in a bottle. Step 3: Clean and rinse Rub the mixture through her fur, but don't leave it on too long (peroxide can bleach fur). Rinse her thoroughly. Step 4: Shampoo Next, wash your dog with pet shampoo and rinse thoroughly. By now, she should be de-skunked and smelling sweet. Thoroughly towel-dry your dog, and be sure to place her in a warm, sunny room for the next couple of hours so that she doesn't get chilled. [ She got full face sprayed:-( I can try getting everything but her eyes washed. Thanks!

At one time our homestead could have been named "Skunk Haven", as we were overrun with skunks. Even though my dogs did not chase the skunks, they still had a number of accidental encounters, including one big dog getting blasted directly in his face when he walked around a corner. We used the same remedy in the same manner described here. It beats any other method or product we ever tried. I even even used this on the ground one time when a skunk sprayed under our house after my husband shot it. If not for the skunk remedy, we'd have had to get a motel!

I agree with Redfish totally. I had one dog get sprayed in her mouth. She came in with so much foaming in the mouth you could barely see her muzzle. I used the baking soda and peroxcide without the detergent in a spay bottle and sprayed in into her mouth then rinsed it out and repeated. It worked fast. Poor thing.

What a good girl, protecting you like that! I'm a dog groomer and Redfish is right on. This should work pretty well. Because she got sprayed directly in the face, if she goes out in the rain she may still smell vaguely of skunk for a while. Be super careful using it around the eyes!
Good Luck! I think a nice big bone is in order while she is drying!

We were already headed to Tractor Supply when I checked for responses. We bought Natures Miracle skunk odor remover, and it worked really well. Talley only got sprayed in her mouth (which is what happens when a dog grabs a skunk but the rear!!), so I did the best I could with the stuff we bought. This morning I don't smell any skunk at all, and Talley is curled up on her doggie bed in the living room. I bet my barn stinks though:-(
Thanks for all of the help!! I was really worried, she is a Catahoula and has too short of a coat to be outdoors in the cold, but I wasn't going to let her inside if the bathing didn't work. Thankfully it did work and all is well!!
