There are four hurdles: December 11th, sunsets start getting later; December 21st, the shortest day of the year; January 5th, sunrises start getting earlier; January 18th, the average daily temperature starts getting warmer. The run is not over, but there are no more hurdles.
Sixty days from now, bluebonnets and buttercups will be blooming. As will Lady Banks, red buds and mexican plums. The trees and shrubs will be budding. Temperatures will be in the 80s. And the violent weather, fire ants, mosquitos and scorpions will remind me that winter had comforts I would not notice.

LOL...
Not around here...
It seems that winter is just getting started in these parts. Tonight and tomorrow night are forecasted to reach lows in the upper teens. IIRC, to date, the lows have dipped below freezing only three or times this winter.
But, not to worry, 60's for highs and 40's for lows are expected again by the weekend.

Yep, winter is hitting the Ohio Valley now. We had it easy for a while there so now we are going to pay for it!

Winter just started here, Feburary is a colder month than January here, things don't really start improving until March when the first spring flowers will appear, now that I do enjoy. Bud break is late April/early may for most trees round here. Looking back at photos I see my fruit trees were in flower on the 21st May, most of the big trees were only just starting to come into leaf, I think about 1st of May is when I know things are getting better! But then I never have to contend with 80F either, and not really wild weather, unless you count WIND!
