My 8 year old Minature Schauzer developed seizures out of the clear blue. Cluster seizures from the start. She has been on Phenobarb for months. The dosage has been adjusted several times. It is just not working. Yesterday she had six and today so far 2 bad ones. I need advice. I am having a hard time watching this. Vet thinks it is brain tumor.

I would get her to a vet who can find out for sure what is going on. Do you have a canine neuro specialist anywhere near you?
I'm so sorry you are going through this with your poor pup. Praying you find the solution.

I've had several epileptic dogs..
Phenobarb will in time kill the dog via liver failure. It's not pretty.
Ask the vet to switch the dog to Potassium Bromide, it has no long term problems and often works much better. It comes as a liquid or pill, I found the liquid much easier to use. You can buy it via an online pharmacy like foster/smith its cheaper than getting it from a compounding pharmacy.
How bad are the seizures and how often?

Has the vet done a cranial xray?
So sorry you're having to deal with this, and praying for some answers for you.

Seizures are bad . We have appt with vet shortly. Sounds like her lungs are very congested. I will see what they have to say. I appreciate all the support.

Husband and I weighed all our options. We decided to let her go. Thank you all for your support.

So sorry for your loss. You did what any good owner should do, put the needs of the dog first.
She'll be waiting for you at the rainbow bridge.

We had a beagle we adopted from the shelter, they said they found her on the street wandering. She was as well behaved as a service dog, we took her places and she was an angel.
Then she had a seizure, and she was terrified. Then she had another, these were full blown rolling howling screaming pooping herself seizures. She would be terrified for hours afterwards. They were so violent we had her put to sleep after a loading dose of pheno and Kbr failed to stop them. Even a shot of Valium wouldn't stop the active seizure.
The shelter was enraged we put her down, they said we should have brought her back if "the seizures bothered us".
I personally was horrified they would attempt to adopt out a dog with such violent seizures to anyone. Yes she was an absolute gem of a dog, but Really... thats no way to live. Half the time she was recovering from a seizure and terrified.
