We finally did the "surgery" on the chicken's foot today. We used iodine and warm water to soak it, then used Thrushbuster on it every few days for about two weeks. Today I thought we were going to have to surgically cut the core out, but it basically popped right out. The Thrushbuster is amazing. It only took about one minute for the core to come out. There was no bleeding and no residual infection. It was very quick and not traumatic for the bird.

I never thought of using Thrushbuster. It's copper napthanate, which is very drying as well as germicidal. I wonder if a sugardine pack would work too. Seems like these things would be a lot safer and easier on the chicken than cutting the bumblefoot out.

Grannyg, I hate to think what that bird is saying about your ancestors and progeny! I've heard "mad as a wet hen" but never mad as a partly wet rooster.
