I was a member on HT since 2008, I lurked more than I posted but when I did post I felt it was something worth sharing. We were documenting our homestead on a different forum and would link to our projects on HT to there. Due to several issues on that forum I decided to create my own and blog about what we do. So I started linking and posting to our own place because my posts are very picture intensive, such as our earth sheltered home build, I think we have over 1000 pics of the process. At the time we only had like 20 members on our forum. Then I started seeing my posts being deleted. I made a thread on the admin forum asking why, and I received a PM that it was because I was trying to steal members away and I was running a commercial site. That ticked me off and I replied really? People have direct links to their swag bucks and amazon affiliates in their signatures and you have an issue with my site that has 20 members? So I said just delete my account and my posts, my account was deleted but all my posts are still there. This was right after group took over. I have silently lurked since then and have seen what has been happening with HT over the last couple years, It is truly sad. It's good to see you have this place going and I hope it takes off. *goes back to lurking*

Hi thb! I don't think anyone is going to delete your links here. There's a place at the bottom of the page for links. We like to go look and get good ideas, and then come on home, put them to work, and share how they fit into our lives.
I'm not any sort of spokesperson for this board, but I can tell you that if you stay within the boundaries of courtesy and respectfulness, you will be welcome to share here. There is genuine kindness here, and nobody feels threatened by links.
I'm so sorry you had that experience at the other board. I have every confidence that you will find the contrast between there and here quite refreshing.

Personally, I'd like to see the pics of your endeavor!

I remember times on the other board - way back - when they would tell you that they were going to trim posts to save space....then we'd all send in threads we wanted saved. It was a big deal when your post number went down as they trimmed so they found a way to keep it while deleting. I know this is diffferent that the current situation. It's so much nicer to not have anyone above us that HAS to make money off of us. Their actions showed me that they did notunderstand the strength of the homesteading movement or the type of people we are.

I LOVE IT... NO lurking! Join in. We all want to get to know you. It was rather unnerving that non-members from the old place could chime in; or even message you. I really didn't like that at all. Join. We don't bite.

I mostly read for the past few years, partly because I was in a studio apt with no garden etc, but also because I felt uncomfortable. Not sure why - large forum or lots of snark or the politics being so rude (I am a liberal "respect everyone" & "live & let live" type). If I had known about the company's behavior I would have quit but it seems moderators were the intermediaries and buffer for us. Anyway, I hope you enjoy HF as much as I am.

Personally I love the links and blogs and seeing what everyone is doing. That is what this is all about-learning and inspiring one another.
