My boy Hisser has been going around the house calling on and off the last couple days. He is not much of a talker, usually, though he comes to call, likes to cozy up on my lap, stands up with his paws on knee when I'm here at the computer, runs to me when I've been out. This morning he was calling outside what was Dad's bedroom, before Dad passed away. Hisser was Dad's cat, but it's almost four years. Just now Hiss ran up and down the stairs a couple times, calling. What ever in the world??

Yes! He may be trying to tell you he is in pain.

Thanks, I have been wondering if he isn't feeling well. Off to the vet.

mollymckee, you beat me to it - that was my first thought, too. He may have urinary calculi. Fixed male cats are prone to them. Could also be a bladder infection. Has he been peeing in odd spots or calling out when he's in the litter box or wherever he goes to pee outside? What did you find out, Use Less?

Also, how old is he? He might be suffering from feline dementia. And so good you are vetting him so quickly for the bladder! I have had 2 cats with bladder issues- my little heart cat, after she was diagnosed with CRF, she later got a UTI from her earth-friendly, easy biodegradable litter... she would walk around the house crying, and then let out a very pitiful, pained type of cry as she backed up to the wall or cabinet and peed the tiniest bit, as she was most definitely trying to show me she was sick. She was put on anti-b's, but as soon as we realized it was the litter and that was removed, she immediately improved. The male from my childhood- my mother never watched his signals, and he got so bad that even though I had vetted him, she later got rid of him because he didn't get retrained to the box (I was in college, so out of my control. ) I hope the little guy heals quickly, whatever it is!!

We can't get in to the vet till next week. It is a busy service, which I like, since it indicates confidence and return customers. Hisser's condition doesn't warrant an emergency fee. The calling stopped the middle of the second morning. He doesn't seem to have any problems using the box, etc. He does heave a LOT of hairballs, even though I brush both cats almost daily.
