I've arranged to adopt a pair of orange brother kittens in a few weeks...one is a darker ginger classic tabby and the other a lighter mackerel pattern, both with white markings. They are only 5 weeks old right now, so it will be a little while. Annie has been an only cat for a very long time, but lately she seems to be entering her second kittenhood - racing through the house chasing imaginary mice, attacking and pummeling bath towels into submission in the bathroom and pouncing on her own tail as though she's never seen it before! I figure she might like having someone to play with now that she seems to have forgotten she likes to sleep 23 hours a day. And, if she really hates them, they will have each other to play with. I know I'm looking forward to having kittens around again - it's been years since there have been babies in the house. I'm sure I'll remember all the things I've forgotten about the down side of kittens, like protecting the Christmas tree decorations and teaching them not to claw the furniture...but I'm trying not to think about it right now, lol! I blame willowgirl for all this...those pics she's been posting in the "It's not working" thread have forced me to do this.

Good luck! We had a stray adopt us a few years back, our existing cat still hasn't adjust to her. In fact I think she's the bully and "beats up " on the cat that was here first! The stray is extremely lovable.....the older resident (male cat) has actually learned to be more loving the past 18 or so months. I think he's wanting to "get in on what she's getting". We have finally stopped taking his picture every time he climbs into a lap (only mine...guess I'm "his")....it happens about once a week, now verses the NEVER in the first 5 yrs we had him, lol.

Awe!! Orange cats are my favorite! It's funny because when I was a kid it was unusual to see an orange one. Nowadays almost every cat I see walking around is an orange one. I have an awful one right now. His name is Pumpkin and he's awful because he likes to wake me up by tipping a lamp off my bedside table on my head. Or if I fall asleep on the couch, pulling a book off the shelf. Awful or not, he's still my fave. I know you're going to have a ton of fun with the new additions.

barefootfarmer, you have a BRAT CAT on your hands, lol. Annie is big on rattling the door and meowing loudly and plaintively if she finds herself of the opposite side of the door from me. She also likes to sleep on my head or floss her teeth on my hair. I'm hoping that kittens will distract her a bit. ohiodreamer, the main reason I always add kittens two at a time is so they have a buddy if the older cat(s) don't take to them right away. It's been a while since we've had more than one cat, but at one point, Annie was one of about 10. Granted, most of them were related to her, but she had a couple other cats that she made friends with, so I'm hoping everyone gets along eventually. I'm used to seeing orange males and calico females in the same litter, but the mama to these kittens is a dilute orange. One of the sisters is a gray tabby and one is a gray tabby with calico markings on the face.

If this works, here is a pic of one of the kittens I'm getting. Apologies if it's too big - I haven't learned the finer points of this yet. It is a little fuzzy, but I didn't take it, just forwarded it from the gal I'm getting my boys from. Only one more week to wait. They will get their first shots before I pick them up. eta: It worked!

We brought the boys home last night. Annie, as I expected, was less than thrilled with the interlopers, especially since they found my bed right away and that has always been "her" spot. She was in a bit of a snit with me - obviously, she knows who is to blame for all this. She did skulk about a bit, and if she found them sleeping, would deign to sneak up behind my bed onto the window sill. Even then, she barely tolerated me petting her (and rubbing kitten scent on her), rather than climbing up on the pillows behind me and flossing her teeth on my hair (this is my laptop computing spot).
Early days yet...I think she's coming around. She only hissed quietly at one when he wanted to meet her this morning, and this evening she came nose to nose with Ollie (the darker brother) without having a fit. I think within a few days she will put them in their place a few times and be back in charge of her world.
More pics coming soon.

Huh, I can't see them now, either. How strange. I didn't do anything to make them go away, I promise (wouldn't know how anyway, lol). Haha, willowgirl, I'm sticking to my story...your kits were just so cute that I started thinking on how much I "needed" kittens - all your fault. I'm very happy with the little guys, except when they want to bite my nose at 2am. They get to spend the rest of the night in the living room, lol!

I think the gal I got the boys from took down their pics on fb and it made me lose my pics, too. I promised I'd get some pictures of them up, didn't I....I should get on that!
Annie is slowly resigning herself to the thought that these pests are here to stay. She tolerates them in very small amounts, but when she's done, she is DONE. Hissing and growling commence! What's funny is when she's half asleep and forgets she doesn't like them for long enough to give one of them a lick. It's like she can't help herself....and then she remembers, haha. At least she isn't actively attacking them and will even sleep on the bed with them. She's actually coming around faster than I thought she would.

And this is his brother, Stanley...or Julius, or Tristan, or whatever name Abby's come up with this week. I'm sticking with Stanley and Oliver, as in Laurel and Hardy. They certainly get into a lot of fine messes!

Well, now the pics seem to have disappeared again. I guess I'm going to figure out photo bucket after all. I have no idea why my pics keep going away without my permission. They misbehave even more than Oliver and Stanley!
