Where I was cutting Firewood today found a fresh Groundhog Hole. Thinking soon as the Season opens going over there and trying to get at least one.
There is getting to be more around here and I like eating them.

I end up with a young male here about every two or three years. The mothers kick them out of the den and they have to find their own home. The home they find here is under the garden shed. That lasts one day as a trap is set. Young ones are great eating in the late summer as they don't have as much fat as an adult would have. Adults are too fat after June.

Use to have many more around here. I believe Coyotes killed a lot of them.
We use to eat them all the time.

There was one in my garden last Fall. Did not know they were good to eat. Any secret to cleaning and cooking them? They did not exist where I grew up, and in all the time I was in OK I saw only one.

Their unprotected in ny so open season. Never eaten one though but if someone has a good way to cook them I would keep a few. I wonder if they would make a decent sausage.

They have Glands in their Arm Pits like Squirrels and such.
Young ones are good Fried. The Older ones I always Parboiled them and Baked them with Salt, Pepper and Sage. But can Pressure Cook them or Boil them until meat falls off the Bone and put BBQ Sauce on it.
My Step Mom would Drive Vehicle into the ditch to hit one for Dinner.
