Sorry, but I could not find any where else to go with this thread, so it goes here.
I am getting tired of having my Internet Explorer lock up on some websites (not this one) because of "long running scripts" from all of the ads that some of these websites have. I am contemplating getting an ad-blocker and loading it though I really hate adding stuff like that to my computer.
So I thought that I would ask everyone here what ad-blockers you use, what are the benefits and whether or not you have experienced anything bad from an ad-blocker?
I swear that I am probably the only person on the internet that does not yet have an ad-blocker on their computer.
Thanks for any help that you can offer.

Not all background scripts are ads. Some are used for navigation in the site, some are ads, and some are data collection on your surfing habits.
I use both Firefox and Pale Moon, have both AdBlockerPlus extension (its a must have) and NoScript. These are just couple of many, many optional extension add ons in Firefox family. NoScript requires you to make lot decisions and testing on any new website, cause as I say some scripts you have to allow for site to be functional. And now there are sites that sniff for ad blockers and script blockers and wont let you in unless you give them total free reign. Frankly I dont have a need for such sites.
If NoScript is too paranoid and too much work for you, there is an alterative called Ghostery. It blocks some tracking scripts automagically with regularly updated lists of domains of these data collection places. I dont think its as effective as NoScript, but if you cant live with NoScript then its way to go (along with adblocker plus of course).

Just leave IE, and open a gmail account. You'll need to check IE for a while, but keep directing parties you want to communicate with to your new address.

I have used Firefox browser and Ad Block Plus for a fair amount of time with no issues.

There is now a firefox extension called ad blocker ultimate. Seems way to go. I have been experimenting with win10 installed to an external hard drive on my old desktop. So lot tweaking to disable or uninstall lot of built in carp, then fresh firefox with ad block ultimate and full no-script.

Yeah I second the rec from UseLess to leave IE. We use Chrome (the Google one) and have been for years. We use AdBlock Plus with that one. If you want to stay with IE, I am use you could find ADP for IE as well, it's a pretty big ad-blocker which should be supported for IE as well.

I've used Ghostery and Add Blocker Plus. Both work well. I have Add Blocker Plus on my computer right now. So glad to have an ad blocker and do not think it slows the computer down at all.
I will add that I haven't used Internet Explorer in years. Either Google Chrome or Firefox. Both are sooo much better than Internet Explorer.
