I had a brand new experience today and it's hard to know for sure if it was the bees or a fluke but only the bees make sense to me. I'd had a honey bowl shatter my last inspection which caused a riot of the hive I worked and maybe robbers too and I didn't get the outer lid on I had such trouble with too many bees and clean up That day. So,I got back today, all suited up to put the inner and outer lids in order which I'd left askew since I had worse problems at that time. The bees had another angry day but my job was so quick I wasn't worried. A dozen got on my suit's face mesh (and plenty more on me)and I just brushed them away or let them fly off as I walked away giving them enough time to want to go home more than keep trying to hurt me. Some stayed on my "face",the mesh, for several minutes.Well, before I even got my suit off, clear of bees,in the house again,my right eye was watering and started to hurt. I knew I'd gotten No sting ...no swelling or pain...but my eye turned red and I had to get moisturizing drops into it. It felt like a "dry" spot,if you know what I mean....uncomfortable,but not real pain....just a "hurt" eye that turned half red. It's still half red a half hour later but the owie spot isn't annoying after rinsing it several times and using drops. Could sting venom have sprayed into my eye through the suit's mesh? I never heard of that but the timing was so spot on I have a hard time thinking it wasn't from an angry bee. I've been nicked before...and my eye wasn't even sting nicked...I Know that would have hurt a lot more. Thanks for ideas or especially experience. Like I said this was New for me!

shellymay, I thought 6 years ago that having bees was too intimidating for me to do- the first book I got was overwhelming, like big time-College all over again! but I studied a whole year and then got them. Never looked back and wish I'd been more "brave" before. It's a whole different world than pets or chickens but it's Do-able! I adore them! I tried getting Mason bees to pollinate because not enough honey bees came to our property our first years here and I felt my fruit trees suffered. The mason bees just didn't re-populate for me. NO problem since I got my honey bee hives! It's funny too because Many books say bees don't "work" at home but fly to collect and pollinate long distance. Sorry,I say NO.....I'm Sure those are my own bees just a dozen yards away from the hives in my garden from their apiary! If frost doesn't get my fruit I have bumper crops and love watching the blossoms covered with bees in the early Spring. The buzz is a song to my ears! and combined with cherry blossom scent I just stand there and Love it all! Thanks for commenting. If you ever live where you can have at least a top bar hive (look it up)-DO be brave. It's worth it for the wonderful life experience.

hobbitlady , It has never crossed my mind (having bee's) Nope never, my hands are full with my full time job and raising sheep, 150 adult ewes and allllllllllllllll those lambs they have...LOL we run registered stock and its a ton of work with the record keeping and all I also raise and sell chickens I purchase them at 2 days old and raise them up until they are 4 months old (all pullets) and sell them to the general public ( 750 average per year) and this takes up any extra time I have along with being women of the house and all those responsibilities. So I just buy my honey from those folks like you that care for bee's and harvest honey I hope your eye is feeling better and I did read indypartridge , post and sure seems like others have experienced what has happened to you, as they say we never stop learning.
