Iroquois Lake in Central Park, Schenectady, NY, is stocked with sunfish for fun and food for local residents. Julian Cavanaugh, 20, caught a 37" alligator gar, took his picture with the fish, and put it back in the lake. Alligator gars are not suppose to be in that lake. Alligator gars like sunfish. link

It was caught again last Friday. 32" long and weighed 10 pounds. This time, wasn't tossed back!

As a kid when we went to the creek to fish we would first rig up for a gar. On those hot summer days the flies won't leave you alone unless you have caught a gar and stuck his snout into the mud a few feet behind you. All that thrashing around draws all the flies from you to him and they get turned back lose before you leave. Wade

The NY State Department of Environmental Conservation has officially declared that it was caught. Until another is caught or observed, the species is considered eradicated from Iroquois Lake.

LOL; Catch and Release. I wish they would declare a certain black and white cat an invasive species. I've been trapping for coons now for weeks, and I've caught the same cat at least 7 or 8 times. It formerly headed for a back corner of the fence and left the area. Now it turns and heads for the dry pond that my wife calls her "nature preserve". I did not have time this morning or I would have issued deportation papers.
