Over in gardening Shin posted some nice pictures of a park, some of the pictures showing water lilies almost covering a pond. The water lilies reminded me of an article I saw on the net a couple of days ago---Essentially the article said that someone had let loose some capybaras into the Florida swamps and that they were propagating as an invasive species. The picture accompanying the article showed a capybara munching on water lilys, or what we called water hyacinth back home.
According to the articles I read as a follow-up, the animals are reasonably gentle, are eaten in some parts of S. America and are kept as pets in some places in Europe. They grow to around 100 pounds, so they are just what we need to clear the canals of water hyacinth and provide food for the pythons.
