Have a problem with my car.. my father wasn't a car guy, taught me to change the oil and check the tire pressure and that's about it..
Never picked up anything that way myself either.
My last adventure with self-fixing it, was trying to replace the headliner of this old heap, as it was coming apart like confetti. Got the new one up, but the glue didn't stick, even sprayed multiple layers, and so I am trying to find some upholstery pins to hold it up. . . I don't love this car, but it gets me around, and at least the mechanic who last looked at it liked it. . .
Anyway, the ignition isn't turning all the time, it's sticking, sometimes I can put the key in and turn it, other times it's frozen.. I just tried swapping out keys today, wondering if it was a worn out key, no, it really sticks, even midway at times. Worried it'll not turn at all soon, when I am far from home, so I am going to take it to the shop to get fixed.
I thought I'd ask beforehand if any folks had any experience with this problem, and what it cost them.

Try some dry graphite lubricant. It works well, and you can add some to all those door locks, and find some old padlocks to lube...anything mechanical that won't tolerate a lot of grease. Find it at any auto parts store.

The pins in the ignition cylinder are worn chipped or broken. Replace the cylinder.

The pins in the ignition cylinder are worn chipped or broken. Replace the cylinder. This is especially a problem for people that carry a ton of keys on their key chains. The excess weight of all the keys results in wearing and stressing the pins in the key's cylinder to the point that it has to be replaced. This is probably not your issue because it seems to have just started for you, but when this happens is your steering wheel turned all the way to the left or to the right?

Are you wondering whether it's a steering wheel lock issue? At first that is what I thought it was, but the key turning trouble happens whether the steering wheel is turned or not.

The last ford f150 I had did that same thing. I replaced the cyl with a brand new one and it stuck too. I took it back and got the higher price one and it worked fine.
So... beware the cheap aftermarket cylinders. If you have a chipped key... oh boy. Find a junkyard and hope the car you want has the keys.

Thankfully not a chipped key.. I went out and picked up some graphite, then promptly misplaced it. Thankfully I found it unstuck and not being a problem for awhile -- perhaps it wouldn't lock up again for a bit, so I figured I'd find where the graphite disappeared to or reluctantly buy it again..
Until tonight, when the car wouldn't start, not because the key wouldn't turn, but because the engine wouldn't catch. Sounds like it should, but it never does, just sounds the same perfectly regular sound of trying to.
So, got to figure out which auto repair place to have it towed to tomorrow.
Car'd been pretty problem free until this, now one thing after another. Kyrie eleison.

Well, it was what I thought it was from the sound of it, which I must add I was pretty pleased to correctly guess it just from a few tutorial websites, not being knowledgeable about car stuff.
Ignition was working fine, you could hear it doing what it always does, but no sound of fuel trying to get the engine going. So it was the fuel pump.
So, that and a new filter, and I'll be out $400. Sigh. Well at least this thing still gets me where I need to go.
