That is a serious loss of net worth.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Tractor Supply Co. has again reduced its guidance for the year, saying that weakness in the agricultural and energy sectors is weighing on consumer spending in many of the rural communities that the retailer serves.
Always the possibility of closing least profitable stores to make the company more profitable.

TSC is just another big box, when I can get the same for pennies more right in town why would I drive 10 ish or a bit more miles to them?

While I much prefer the feed that I get from the farm store, they are not open evenings and I work full time. TSC is open when I have time to buy animal food. I hope my local store is not going to close.

I hope so too Ms. AD, but try to support them when you can, go in and talk to them about delivery or after hours pick up, they might be able to work something out for you.

I hope they weather the slump. In our area we have TSC, Rural King, and Farm and Fleet to choose from. I believe the competition helps the consumer.
Honestly, it sounds to me like a good time to buy TSC stock.

I hope my local store is not going to close. Our local feed store will leave the feed out on the dock for you if you pay in advance.....unfortunately, it is kinda far away. The one closer to us shut down to make room for houses.

We have TSC or Atwoods. The local feed store closed this past year and the next closest one is over an hour from here. They've got weird not regular hours. Atwoods feed is buggy and on one occassion even moldy so TSC is really our only option. I hope they are able to weather the storm.

Honestly, it sounds to me like a good time to buy TSC stock. Tractor supply's bread and butter is the homesteader, gentleman farmer, weekend rancher, someone with 4 to 80 acres. That's primarily baby boomers and some hangers on from Gen X. But we are starting to get too old to keep up the strenuous activity. This is too hard of work in too hot and cold weather for Gen Y or the millennials. Costco and Sam's are based on big house, big yards, and big families. This also is not millennials. Fewer people in the present generations own homes. I'm not sure that there is a growing customer base for Tractor Supply, Costco or Sam's.

We used to go to Tractor Supply, but a Rural King opened much closer to us and they have about the same merchandise so we switched.

I'm glad to have a TSC nearby. Not all of the places around carry the same lines, which is good. TSC was the only place that had Iodine teat dip when I needed it. I never know what circumstance I will find myself in. I am grateful that all of these stores are here.

I just got back from one of our TWO local TSC's and was absolutely in shock at what I saw.
Inventory was severely lacking and what displays used to be in the center rows with main staple items,
had now been replaced with quick, discount dollar saver specials!!! I'd say at least a reduction of 30-50% or more on available items.
When I questioned one of the employees concerning the recent report (that I'd read on here), that their stock selling shares were down 16%
and was there any word from the company, on possible lay-offs or closing, she calmly flipped her hair and gave an unconcerned reply, that this
wasn't going to be a career job for her; that she was going to college and this was just something to "get her by".... She did mention that the
likely reason for the lack of supplies, was that they hadn't been really up to it as far as getting inventory out on the floor and that their supply
truck comes in every Thursday. Strange that further information revealed that they had been in this "transition" period for the last two or three weeks,
so something is definitely up as a month ago when I went in there, things were looking good and it's hard to believe that they would sell out so fast in just
two days, or that they would be so nonchalant about keeping fresh inventory out on the store floor so it can be sold. I'm guessing that there is probably a
problem with their 'normal' vendors not being paid on time, hence they've been cut-off on further supplies and this has resulted in a scramble to get those
cheap dollar display items out on the floor to make it appear "less empty". 10-12 years ago, this was another big, box store dealing in farm supplies and that
company went belly-up and TSC came in and bought up the building and continued so there was little to be concerned about; the prices stayed relatively
the same as well as the service. The same can't be said today, although the service is still good and the prices too, but the availability of much is not and
should concern all who do their regular farm shopping there.

richnc I took your suggestion and stopped at Southern States for feed on Friday evening. Traffic wasn't too bad and I made it in just before they closed. As always they were really nice to me. I noticed they have extended their Saturday hours to 4pm. Maybe they are beginning to understand that a lot of their income comes from part time farmers who work 8-5 somewhere else.

TSC is the only game in town here. The other feed stores closed years ago. If TSC were to close I would have to go to the next town over. Not that far away, but I have no other reason for going there. I pass our TSC daily, so stopping in is really convenient and doesn't cost me any extra gas.
I haven't noticed empty shelves here except they are always out of the dog food I want. Whenever I go in for something else I check for the food, if it's in stock I'll buy it even if I don't need it yet. But that is just supply and demand I think. And it only seems to be one or two brands that this happens with, not across the board.
Hope they can weather the storm!

They have the diamond brand upscale cat kibble that I like. Best price on the better quality kibble. Though sometimes they are out. I buy bulk bolts there. Nobody else around here sells bulk bolts. And car batteries. I have had good luck with their Exide batteries. Which also are cheaper than Autozone and Wally batteries. I am getting 5 or 6 years out of Exide, only 2 or 3 out of Autozone and Wally batteries.
And occasionally generic farm equipment parts.
Next closest farm store is Atwoods maybe 30 more miles away. No Fleet Farm or Rural King around here. If I was looking for livestock feed, would go to the local farmers cooperative. They tend to be cheapest on feed, though other stuff they sell tends to be higher price, but not higher quality.
As to stock price, unless there is a big underlying reason for a sudden big drop, wouldnt worry. Stocks go up, stocks go down. Dont put all your eggs in one basket so to speak. Some stocks can go to zero.

Unless of course you pick some up because you believe in their company, and if it tanks, you can use it to offset capital gains on something else.

Just remember capital gain losses are limited to $3,000 a year.
