It is with tears that I write, I have lost yet another gelding. This makes three since September 13th.
The first was Hoppy, of which I posted about here.
The second was Rio, he had only been with me a month, he was a sheriffs department rescue I took, he was playing nad fell, broke his back. He was old and had been negelcted his whole life, his bones were brittle and frail.
And now I have lost my beloved 20 yr old TB gelding, Adam. I have had him for over 4 years, he belonged to a friend who could no longer keep him. He was thin and ill when I first got him, but he had gained over time, though he never stopped having serious medical issues freguently. He finally developed a liver stone, also called a bile stone, and after nearly 3 months of trying to calm his liver down he went into liver failure overnight last night. We had to put him down this morning. My heart hurts...

It is hard to do what you do. Both hard in the keeping and hard in the losing. But so many is especially hard. I'm so sorry.

I'm so very sorry aoconnor... It's so heart wrenching to lose a beloved animal... It's posts like these that have me keep a box of tissues right by my laptop... Prayers that the sting of this loss will dissipate quickly and be replaced by all of the good memories. Take care and God bless, Mari

aoconnor, my heart goes out to you at the loss of Hoppy, Rio and Adam. Losing them in such a short space of time would be just awful. But please take comfort knowing that you did such a great thing for those magnificent animals in giving them so much love, attention and caring, and they couldn't have been in better hands. Thinking of you.

aoconnor, Those who take in rescues are people with extraordinary hearts to begin with. The hurt of losing them is great because your love was great. virtual hugs to you.

I am very sorry for your losses. Others' rejected animals seem more likely to become ill or pass on early. Just think of the good days they had with you, each one a blessing to the animal.

I'm so sorry. aoconnor, I try to focus on the joy they've given me, rather than the loss. Think about how much you gave them and how much their lives improved when they moved to your place. In the back of your mind remember that even Martin Luther said there are animals in heaven. As he said "would it be heaven if there aren't ?"

I've been away all day so just now saw this. I am so sorry, aoconner. Losing one is difficult enough, when the losses pile up like this it's so hard to take. I wish I could say something to bring you comfort, but all I can say is that my heart hurts with you, and you'll be in my prayers.

Ditto times 10 on what the others have posted, not much more to add but I believe we ALL find comfort in the care you give these horses when you take them in and give them such a good life for however much time they have on this earth, can't keep them from serious issues health wise that they arrive to your place with, but feeding and caring and doing all you can for them is not something they or us don't find comfort in. People like you should be given honors for having such a big heart and taking in these horses, believe me when I say you make a big impact on the comfort they are in when they pass. (hugs)

aoconnor, ((hugs)) Oh the pain such loss has given you. A heart so big as yours should only feel joy; however, we all know the larger the heart, the more the pain. At least all those wonderful horses had a time of experiencing your love. ((hugs)) aoconnor

I've been busy and haven't checked in here lately. I'm so sorry for all your losses aoconnor, that is just heartbreaking. When we lose a beloved horse, we lose a little piece of our heart. It amazes me that no matter how many pieces we lose, our heart keeps expanding and making room in it to love more animals. No matter how much it hurts, I couldn't imagine a life without my animals. The pain is the price we pay for loving them so much. You are a wonderful owner, and you gave those horses some wonderful last years that they wouldn't have had without you. I hope you can take comfort in that. They had to leave for greener pastures to make room for the others out there that need you. And they will all be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge. Happy trails Hoppy, Rio and Adam!
