You know what I normally raise during the winter. This winter, lost another d'Anver bantam rooster, so I hatched out what I could.
Friend gave me some Marans eggs, as I love, just love dark eggs! Hatched out two splash and two blues. One for sure is a rooster. Splash are going to be very pretty.
They got to big for the house, so I put them out in the Bantam/pullet grow out pen. They were mostly feathered out and the weather has been rather mild.
The d'Anvers, because they are soooo tiny and do not stink as much as big breeds, they can stay in the house for a much longer time.
Do have a few d'Anver chicks to choose from as a replacement rooster,,, IF, they have the temperament I want.
The new to me brooder is working out wonderfully and its a lot easier for me to clean and feed them.
Have White Quail, Blue Quail, Quail, and one Colombian young cockerel split to Millie Fleur. Have some hens split to Millie and a couple of nice Millie Fleur hens, may work on that color....
Since I lost my White Quail rooster, that color breeding line is at a stand still at this point.
As scruffy 1 month olds. LOL Belgian d'Anvers
Only hatched out two d'Uccles, for far. I am finding out my nice d'Uccle rooster from a 2nd gen long time breeder, is throwing wattles on the roosters, and it is taking a year or so to show up. Really depressing. They shouldn't have any wattles.
The pullets from him, have super nice beards, muffs and boules. Nice short necks but need work on their foot feathers. Seem to loose all the chicks that have the super nice foot feathers.
Also ticked off some of the other d'Uccle breeders because I am more interested in the proper body type and the muffs/beards.... and playing with Non standard colors.... gasp !!
Am such an evil person..... I must be a horrible person for straying off their narrow little path.
Am getting old enough, that I zero interest in using only one cookie cutter bird, from only one line. Not a healthy thing to do for a breed.
Nothing wrong in having or raising different colors.
Anyway....
One hen was hatched July 2016, others were hatched in Oct.
I love this pullets's color and pattern.
