Cupid arrived early at Dysfunction Junction ... Numb bought me a steam mop for Valentine's Day! I had been wanting one for awhile, but frankly was waiting until the manufacturers got the technology perfected. For instance, some of the first-generation mops had awful pads that didn't stay on, especially once they had been washed a zillion times and had shrunk in the dryer. Shark seems to have solved the problem with its new touch-free "Genius" mop. OMG, I LURVE this thing! My kitchen floor has never been so cleeeean! I even used the "steam blast" function to loosen up some dots of paint that had been there forever (at least 5 years, as they were there when I moved in, and I had never been able to get them off. I really thought we were gonna have to sand and refinish the floor at some point to get rid of them!). With seven cats and two dogs in this house, I needed this mop.

The steam mop has been a game changer for me as well! Much better on the finish of tile--doesn't strip. Am thinking of using on the porch overhang where there is a lot of gunk.

I'm jealous! I've had 2, our regions nasty hard water kills them.....within 5 uses! I even used distilled water in the second one.....dead within a few months. My mom has used hers for years....loves it. Now that we are on well water (we were on conditioned city water before) it's worse, so I won't bother even to try one here.

I love mine, too. I found extra pads and the triangular head for it at Goodwill Outlet, so I can get into corners and tight spaces with it. With extra pads, I can go over the floor repeatedly until the floor is super clean, switching pads for the final cleaning. So easy!

Seems like with distilled water, it should have solved the problem. I'd be complaining to the manufacturer if mine quit that fast. If you still have it, try firing off an email to the company and see if they will replace it. How frustrating!

Good idea, but I tossed it years ago. They were different brands.

We have a canister unit. Sweetie makes new pads out of old bath towels. We use it for everything, floors, refrigerator/freezer thaw and clean, shower, windows, counters...everything....James

Had one, loved it as long as it worked. Crapped out and wouldn't pressurize anymore. So far, haven't wanted to spend another $90 (or whatever they are now) for a new one. Read that there was some kind of an o-ring that failed on them. Dunno, maybe they've gotten better??
