i have heard that they can just be snapped off? Is this possible--even if I could do it? My banties wont be here untill June, but they are straight run, and we all know what that means!

UNless you're planning on keeping the boys for a long time it's not going to matter, they don't grow them very fast, we have one boy from the last hatch (very lucky we only got one) he's 6 months and nothing there yet.

I have all banties, have never once had an issue with roos using their spurs on each other or me, except one roo who is no longer with us:-) Wink wink:-)
I would watch, if they start arguing and using their spurs, I would deal with it then. I have found my bantams only fight with head tossing and chasing. I have upwards of 60 birds, about 20 are roos. Since they don't bother each other I leave them alone.

The spurs are not dead things. They are quite similar to claws on a dog or cat in that there is living tissue in them and they will bleed if cut or damaged. Best to trim them with some type of rotary cutting tool and have something handy to stop the blood flow.

Going to have to pull the spurs off my Blue Wheaten Ameraucana soon. They are so long he is tripping over them. Knock on wood, he is a sweet heart. Will either use the potato method or the pliers and slow twist, making sure I have blood stop powder on hand.

Welcome!
I wish there was a way to cut and cauterize at the same time, so all of the spur is nearly flush with their leg.
