I think living in a complaining culture creates its own miasma of misery.And probably creates it own financial funk too.
This article raises the importance of a sense of community in being happy. And there is no community where people are belittled and berated.
Frankly the US has been nagged and lectured into unhappiness in the last few years. On one hand is the constant blaring noise of people selling stuff, ie creating a sense if deprivation if you are not constantly buying, while simultaneously condemning the materialistic you do buy. It's a catch 22 where the point is for someone to condemn everything the US is or is not.

Probably a lot of truth to that. So many people are constantly labeled as 'haters,''phobes,' and 'racists'. So much bias and intolerance in the media. And yet most of those who cannot come to the United States imitate us as soon as they are financially able to do so.
The world is much less Nature oriented than it was as little as 50 years ago. I think sharing Nature experiences was a big part of my family relationships and highly valued.
