wonder why at this time of year a hatchery would say they were out of certain breeds for the year ? cant they just keep hatching to meet the demand ?

Maybe they have orders for all they think they can produce. They can only hatch so many eggs per year total, and they have to fill orders for many breeds. That ties up the incubators even if they still have the hens.

AI losses last year have made it very hard for some hatcheries to fill orders. And AI has reared its ugly head again. Sadly, this will affect sales of chicks and birds in some States.

I hate acronyms. When I read your first sentence I thought "I didn't know they Artificially Inseminated the hens." When I read the second sentence I realized what it meant. (Avian Influenza) Maybe I could use some AI (Artificial Intelligence) to read them for me.

Bear Foot Farm,Me too! I was a bit confused at first. Though it did make me wonder.... are chicks from AI's hens and not 'pasture bred' hens? Can they AI chickens yet like all the other eating animals we have?
