Greetings, I have started the 8' x 15' two story house addition. I had a non operational well near to the house and in line with where the footing for the addition had to be dug. I had it filled in and capped with concrete at 4' deep. Now I have the footing trenches dug at three feet deep and they have water in them. I am wondering if the well being capped off and gone was the former water run off/drain for all the ground water that I am now running into. This is more than just rain,I definitely would not pass an inspection! Is the water table at 3' or is the ground just this saturated and I will be in better shape by this summer. I really would hate to have trenches open til July. I have dirty water pump set up and it is draining the trenches but, they continue to refill. Any thoughts regarding the removing of the well and digging footers in the same area?

Around here I have a tin can screwed on the end of a pole to bale out fence posts holes I'm digging in winter because the ground is so saturated any a foot deep will flood. In summer they are dry the whole 3 feet down.
If the level of water in the well was lower than 3 feet, I can't think the water table is higher.
But if you think the well might be causing a problem, you could dig a post hole away from the footing and see. It would surpise me if a well not fed by a spring would be such a problem and I suspect saturated soil.
