wsvn.com/news/local/video-captures-wild-horse-attacking-alligator-in-florida-park/This is a video of a horse going after a gator. Doing a typical stomp and go with a final kick in leaving. Too many people are nowadays so unfamiliar with horses that they are unaware that they are animals most likely to survive in the wild. They can take pretty good care of themselves no matter how cooperative they generally are. That is one if the things I tell people who visit my horses. Always stand where you are out of the horse's way in case she startled. You always want a horse to see a way around you rather than have them decide that going over you is safer if they are startled. And that decision varies from horse to horse. You never want to make a horse so afraid of you that they take action. One thing irritating about this video was the woman's call to the horse to leave the gator alone. Yeah, right. You may have the option to go back to your safe car and then back to your safe house but those horses live with gators who may just eat them if they make a mistake. Are people really so superficial that they don't know anymore that life is a survial struggle? Edited to add that I saw another video in which the gator was a few feet away from the little herd when the mare attacked it originally. Due to the deep weeds was not possible to see the gator at that point. But now I wonder if the concern expressed was that the woman thought the horse was injured by the gator and should leave alone as it was no longer a threat. After meeting the gators teeth, I think the mare agreed. As long as the gator was moving off. It was just had not gone far enough to satisfy the mare.

I watched this with my vet yesterday while I was there for a set of radiographs and trim on a pony mare. We were both disgusted that they observers were actually feeling sorry for the gator! The mare had a foal nearby, and she made danged sure that gator didn't get near it, and running it completely off was the way she kept her youngster safe. Kudos to the horse for being such a great caretaker of her baby and herd! You go girl!
We have feral hogs, and one of my mares thought they were a little too close one day, so she ran after the herd and stomped a little piglet to pieces. I don't like that it happened, but I bet that hog wasn't about to go ask her for a reason! Suffice to say, I know at least one of my horses will protect the herd when necessary.

That Gator also got that mare's leg good. I am hoping someone caught her to check her over.
