Build it as big as you can, so you have room to expand.
I started out with a 10' x 12' Demo shed I bought cheaper already made, than me buying the supplies and making it myself. Then to raise out chicks, then turned in to the pullet bantam shed, is the 8' by 11' Tack room on my run in shed for the horses, and enclosed that with 1/2" by 1/2" heavy duty hardware cloth. Then, I bought a little rabbit hutch for the rooster over flow... really is too small. Then, DH cobbled together with wood we had laying about, made a 4" by 8" raised hen house, which I use for broody hens, or grow out, etc.... Then I bought another shed, 10' by 8', which is now breeding pens for my two pairs of pigeons and some Belgian d'Anvers. (haven't been able to get any other poultry housing for over 2 years, to many sick animals lately)
What I really need is a 36' by 18' shed, so I can have everyone housed closer together and have outside pens for each section. At this point, is only a dream.
Can see where I am going with this. LOL

I suggest building as big a shed as possible. I have Banties, mostly Silkies and Cochins, but they are very prolific breeders and will out number you in a year if the hens all set. I started with 10 chicks 4 years ago, now I have more than 40 birds, and that is after I gave 20 roosters and a bunch of chicks away!!

I built my coops 8 x 8 and 4 foot tall on skids so they could be moved around. If you build them shorter than they are wide than no chance they will blow over in the wind. This is a real time saver as all the wood is already the correct length.
