my silkie chick with the bad legs--it can use one--other sticks out sideways. it eats drinks and is growing like the rest--moves fast for its condition. i think when the hatchery gave its shot, they missed--and fractured the hip. of the 21 i ordered and the 33 i recieved, tiny is the only loss.

That's good to hear! Just wondering - about how old is it now? Also wondering what color is it? My inquiring mind wants to know... ~Mari

Glad to hear its doing ok. Over the years I've had a few chickens with "less than perfect" anatomy and they did just fine long term. Granted, I'm not using them for breeding stock.
I have to admit that I am all for giving a living creature (animal, human or plant) the opportunity to be their best.

well, a update. got al chicks moved to their new house and pen. on the 5 th day, i found trooper under a board, hiding and bleeding. so--about 4 days ago, i used a circle of wire to make her a pen---back in my sunroom.. she has never chirped for the others, only time she make a sound is to che-che at me when i fed, water and change her papers. neighbor came to see her yesterday, and it terrified her. she is getting stronger every day, and sits on her fleece pillow at night--sucker--arent i allbut one rooster is gone, i had hoped it was a pullet-but it decided different. hoping that one of my silkies is a rooster they are my favorite, s calm and gentle. soo signing off--sucker again

We have a special chicken, it's our only expensive one, scared of it's own shaddow, it's taken us four attempts to get her intergrated with the others, they opened up her neck from head to back once, we could peel it open and see everything inside. She's in with them now, tends to hang around with the ducks rather than the chickens, they have better manners. I honestly think she is a bit retarded. It might be a pain in the winter, the ducks stable is not chicken proof!
