And not touched like "touched" (slightly insane, crazy) - ok - maybe sometimes!! ANYWAY, the other day "Blue" - our last Ameraucana hen from 2011 was running around the coop nervous in the service and being very vocal for her because she needed to lay an egg and she tends to get picked on... She very rarely lays anymore - here lately she will jump in the storage room and duck in a crate and lay when she can gain entry... Well, I gave her access to the storage room and in and out she went a couple of times. No go. A little bit later - here she is trying to get underneath "Fella" on the floor of the coop. They are pretty close by the way. They usually hang out together and they are usually close to each other on the roost when I lock up at night. So, anyway, I went back up to the house. Later on I go back out to the coop and just had to laugh... It's been a LONG time since I've seen one of my roosters in a nest box clucking away. (Well, he's not really "in" it but you know what I mean... I don't know if he could cram himself into one anymore - he's a big boy!). I figure this is what he was doing to perhaps entice her to lay next to him? Or perhaps she jumped in the box first and he decided to keep her company? Fella never roosts in the coop during the day... See her egg to the left? She NEVER lays on the first tier. It's either on the top tier/in the storage room/or in the corner on the floor where you enter the coop. Pretty little girl... Later on that afternoon... I know some of you will indeed think I'm "touched" but I spend a lot of time observing/tending my birds and sometimes I am truly amazed at some of their "behaviors". ~Mari

Mari-in-IN,I too am touched then! I love watching chicken tv. When I first got them I was near deathly afraid of them as they have claws and beaks and could peck my eyes out you know! If not for my chicken tv, I would never have learned their behaviors to see what different things mean. I had a beautiful little girl just like your little one. I always wondered if what she was easter egger? Auracana? Americana? ?! Who knew. She was VERY skittish when I got her as an adult, a fact of which I had to be careful. Since if I cornered her wrong, she would panic and possibly go over the chicken fence. Then she got double teamed by my at the time teenage roosters and got an injured eye. All the handling from medicating her eye in the evenings and mornings helped her be a lot less skittish after that... or maybe she was slightly blind.... ? We had to put her down last year as her innards became outtards one day. Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say she is beautiful as is Blue. Oh, and that chickens are so cool!

My chickens also have their special friends. It was fun to watch all the new pullets try to become the rooster's special friend when he wanted no part of them! Now he roosts next to them and they do have their own individual spots. No mixing up the order!

Aw, what a great story and wonderful pics! I love when a hen gets all worked up about laying an egg, then all my roosters get all worked up about the hen laying an egg, then the whole coop gets all worked up about the hen laying the egg. I can hear them from my barn! Silly birds, I think I'm a little "touched" too!
