I have the fever, does that count? I have my buff orpington and barred rock breeding stock. Have my white leghorn and new Hampshire reds ordered. Hoping to start hatching from them this fall. In the mean time, as soon as I get my incubator I will probably do a few hatches from our current layers.
Good to see you here, Fireman

I go through spells. I had planned on ordering chicks but after giving it more thought (and having a gosling emergency) I now have the incubator set up with 3dz eggs due to hatch at the end of the month. I told dh we might as well run it all summer since we have it out. Plus this way is "free" and all of our roos have gentle dispositions.

Free as in I'm not buying from a hatchery or paying shipping fees.

Regards, Mari So far but it is slowing down----so many other people hatching/selling right now. I have alot of chicks I am Growing out------maybe 600 or close---any where from a few days old to just started laying----I am at a little over 1000 chicks/chickens, but I started selling some of the older chickens now and got some young pullets, pairs, trio's advertised(today) for sale----I hope to keep selling some of those as they keep growing to individuals instead of the Auction(Auction charges commission--LOL)---but I will take them to the Auction if needed. Just Playing with My new hobby!!!

It sure is good to see you posting here Fireman. I always enjoyed your posts and chicken threads at that other place. Welcome. Thanks---The "other" place seems to have slowed down on postings in the chicken forum. I like to Talk Chickens---LOL. I am trying to figure out this site--It would not let me sign up as Fire-Man and I have to sign in every time I come here---Have not tried a Picture yet---maybe that is not a problem.

Hope this helps...

Hey, a tractor should do what you want it to do. My big tractor has to be moved with a farm tractor---I have alot of smaller tractors----some moved by hand, some moved with the golf cart.

Nah, I don't have them in the hundreds, maybe 10-20 at a time? It just disgusts me how they dirty stuff up with their poo. I wouldn't mind if they just ate/drank, but when they leave their possibly diseased-ridden poo in feeders/waterers-AGHHH! Target practice time!

Any chance you can share details on that tractor? It looks fantastic. We want to build one that the tractor or ATV pulls, but keep wondering what kind of frame everyone uses.

The frame is a large/long boat trailer frame I bought at auction for $75. It takes less than 5 minutes to move it with the tractor with one person-----unless I am moving it across the farm. Ask questions---about what details you want to know. I have a big 10ftx32ft movable rabbitery i built on a old camper trailer frame-----That really works great-----A movable chicken house could be done on the same type frame.

Be careful hatching a few---a few can lead to a few Incubators---LOL. I just came in from putting 150+ eggs in the hatcher due Sunday. I too have a good size garden started----4 rows 100yds each are collards---mainly planted for the animals.

Fireman, the incubator I am considering holds 36 eggs, it has a turner in it which is great. I have been wondering, those little Styrofoam incubators at most farm stores, would one of those, without the turner, work alright as a hatcher? If I did that, I am assuming I would turn it on a few days early to get it up to temp and get the humidity up. On what day would I transfer eggs from the incubator with the turner to the one without?

Yes they will work for a hatcher---I rarely do that now because I have a hatcher, but have done many times in the past. Once the thermostat is set----then you would probably only need to turn it on 24 hours ahead. Day 18 is when you should candle for the last time---removing any eggs that are No good---then place them in the Hatcher---In My Area----I would Never Open the Incubator for Nothing----till they all hatched or day 22. Good Luck Edited to add-------Day 1 Is 24 hrs after you set them in the incubator----some people count the day they set them as day one----a day is 24 hours long----so day one is 24 hrs after they were set.

I have a couple of those foam incubators. I really enjoy using them with the little windows on top so you can watch the hatch without interrupting them.
I don't hatch a lot, only what I need or get requests for.
I'm currently looking for RIR and Buff Brahma chicken eggs and Royal Palm turkey eggs to hatch.

I've been hatching a lot for me. 4 hatches this year of courtnix quail. I sold chicks from 2 of those. I have some hatching today! 1 out and 4 more pipped. They are due today and tomorrow. This is the hardest part for me. Being patient from pip to fully hatched! Ugh. I need to get some new blood in my flock. Hoping to get done true Jumbo courtnix as all I seem to have been getting are crosses. Attachments:
