My 2 y.o. First freshener that kidded March 1st sure is round. As in much rounder than everyone else. And boy am I having a time trying to dry her up. Of course she is her mothers daughter. Her mom, who I still have was notoriously hard to dry up. She could even milk thru and not need bred at all. Well, this little Nubian X doe is so round and making easily a gallon a day. I milk about a quart once a day just to keep her comfortable. But I'm trying to cut back a little every few days. She is getting almost zero grain, just hay and browse and water. My buck is kept separately this time of year. But this little doe jumps fences and gates with no trouble at all. Do you think dairy goats might breed in early summer? I always had them come in to heat in August, sept and October.

The 'little' you used as an adjective made me think it might be a Nigerian cross, which is not so seasonal, but she's all dairy.
I think I might try a pooch test evaluation to see if she's settled. I believe animals are individuals and there are always those outside the norm but being out of season and in milk and seperated from the buck (hopefully) are a lot of challenges for her to overcome to get bred anyway. IMHO.

Dairy goats do their own thing..... one of my does kidded at 11 months. She went on to kid three times before she was 3 years old. 1/4 Nubian 3/4 LaMancha

Her great big belly seems to go down some by morning. Since babies don't come and go....maybe she's just getting really full during the day and overnight in the stall she's losing a bit of her belly. Maybe she's just a real easy keeper. Anyway, time will tell. She is such a sweet, pretty goat. Not really very little her mom is a big girl too. And a terrific milker.

My avatar picture is of the field where they graze during the day. There's a lot of grass out there.
