What is your favorite BBQ sauce to can? I've made Jackie Clay's and it tastes too much like tomato sauce. I have one that we love when made fresh, but not so much after canning.

I haven't found one, lol! I've tried at least half a dozen. There's a local BBQ restaurant that makes the BEST sauce, and I've been trying to duplicate it for years, but just can't figure it out. It's sweet but really spicy (flavorful, not hot) with only a little bit of a bite to it. I don't like a sauce that's really hot or vinegary (is that a word??) and really dislike most commercial brands. There is one brand made in Oklahoma, Head Country, that I usually buy. It's pretty good, but not even close to the restaurant sauce, plus I'd really like to find a recipe of my own since Head Country is $5 for a tiny little bottle. It's really hard to ask others for recommendations too, since everyone has such a different idea of what the perfect sauce is, but good luck!

I haven't made or bought anything better than Sweet Baby Ray's.

I've been using Sweet Baby Ray's, too. I've heard of an Orange BBQ Sauce. Never found a recipe; particularly one that can be canned.

There is one in Hillsville, VA at a BBQ place on the main street that we love. They sell it and will refill the bottles. The ingredients are a secret. Bummer!

I love Sweet Baby Ray's also, but would love to can some if I could find a recipe as good as that.

That link looks really good. I'm thinking the clear gel would make it nice and thick! Gonna try it.

I also use Sweet Baby Ray's, but that's cause I don't cook very much anymore. This is what I used to make for the family: It's a little tangier than Sweet Baby Ray's, but not a real vinegary or a tomato taste. Bryant's Barbecue Sauce 2 minced garlic cloves 1 minced onion 1 1/2 tsp prepared mustard 1 T prepared horseradish 1 1/2 C water 1/4 C vinegar 1/4 C sugar 2 tsp salt 1 T lemon juice 1/4 C butter 1 C catsup 3 T worcestershire sauce Tobasco to taste Combine all ingredients - simmer, uncovered, 45 minutes. If you like a smoky taste, add 1 T liquid smoke, hickory flavor.

Wonder how strong the horseradish will become after canning, but then we like spicy.

I'm really liking these recipes (both the linked and wolfmom's) because most of the store bought sauces have HFCS, which we avoid.
Man, first baked beans and now BBQ sauce... My mouth is watering and my tummy is rumbling!
