Hello all My husband and I are looking at getting some rabbits for meat. Can anyone recommend any books or websites for us? I was also wondering where I can find out information on which breeds are best for meat. Thank you in advance. I appreciate any and all input

First off I must say that I have raised zero rabbits. Thinking about it. Three books I have are, Storeys guide to raising rabbits and raising rabbits the modern way, both by Bob Bennett. Rabbits for food and profit by Lee Schwanz. I sure dont know if these are the best, but they certainly can help.

Storey's is a good starting point. I always seem to read those first before acquiring new critters.
ETA: Storey's compares the breeds in one of the chapters. A lot will also depend on what's available in your area. But also as you get more into it you'll develop your own preferences.

I would suggest californians for meat production. That's what I raise (for meat). Calm, docile rabbits, big litters, fast growing. Not anything bad about them that I can say.

The best book I've read is one called "beyond the pellet" by Boyd Craven Jr. I think he has 3 books out now, but this is the only one I've read. It has a ton of great information in it.
