We did chickens for the first time last year. Got mostly straight run, butchered all the boys and kept the girls for egg layers. I think I want to get in a pattern of buying a few new hens each year along with the meat birds for the year and setting up a rotation.
I want to add ducks or geese this year. I'm rather fond of the idea of geese, but ducks are cheaper...
When they're older I'll want two different tractors or pastures for them (I want the waterfowl on a lower grain diet) but when they're too little to go outside can I keep them together? If not I might make two orders spaced 3-4 weeks apart so I can get the first batch outside before turning the brooder over to the second batch.
When the butcher chickens meet their end the layers will be integrated with the existing flock.

I have run my chicks and ducklings together,, but the ducks are way, way messy.... might have to clean a little more but it is do-able.

We keep ours together. The ducks are somewhat messy, but that really doesn't bother us. The fox love them, however. I cheered when there was a dead fox on the road. They are beautiful, but hard to trap.

Yeah, I want them outside as soon as possible, no more permanent barn residents until I can keep up with spring cleaning better. The chicken tractor was very manageable, just moved every couple days. Got a bit muddy underneath if we were slow to move it, but not foul. I'm thinking for the waterfowl of a portable shelter and electronet. I want to try letting them weed some parts of the garden, and the tractor won't be manageable for that.

You need an extra large live trap for a Fox, or even better, leg hold traps

I am considering more the chicken runs rather than the tractors. Does anyone know how they are anchored? I'm still on the fence about getting ducks....I love to eat them, but like previous posters have said....they are messy! (Oh, and they love eating grapes!)

(Oh, and they love eating grapes!) Oh, is that what I can do with my excess grapes? We have a huge vine and I've no time to make jelly my husband likes...
