Hello, Thought you would all enjoy seeing the first project I created from the yarn sent to me...using imgbox so hope I can get the pictures to show up in this thread. This was such fun and I'm so grateful to all my kind and generous friends here. This is a baby blanket I crocheted for the child of the Deputy Officer who watched my place the entire 2 weeks I was away during hip transplant recuperation. It is made from "double crochet" stitches. Yeah I'm feeling pretty good about the looks of this blanket. imgbox.com/XQW1YU95

Click on the picture when you are in imgbox, it opens it in another window. In the new window, right click on the picture and click on 'copy image location'. Then back to HF post, click on 'picture' icon, and paste the 'image location' into that box. To paste, you can use the two buttons, Ctrl+V, at the same time. You'll only need to fill the first box of the two. Anyways, it is a beautiful blanket. I love the baby colors! Pretty.

Thanks for the compliments and the information about gettng picture to show up instead of just the URL. Trying that now: At present I'm working with some of the very thin yarn sent me and learning the "bean" stitch. ROFL Had to redo it already several times but it is coming along. I'm using 3 strands of this thin yarn to work with as it just seems more solid that way. (Would love to ONE DAY be able to create those beautiful lacy crochet items; and I suspect this thin yarn would work real well for that.)

Here is the beginning of what I'm calling a "throw" (small size blanket to cover self while resting). It is created out of some new stitches I'm learning, i.e. the half-double-crochet and the bean stitch. This throw will be about 6 ft long and about 4 ft wide when completed. I'm using a 5.5 mm hook and 3 strands of very thin yarn. Here is this "throw" as it is now. Notice I'm doing both sides at the same time. Doing this so as to better manage the thread I'm working with and assure a better coordination.

Here is what I've done so far with this "throw". Still need to get it about 8" to a foot wider. Used 3 strands of very thin yarn and all is done with single crochet, half double crochet and bean stitch. Not bad!!! Please notice the "seam" where I combined the two sides does not even show. ROFL (Seams much better than use to do.)

Just saw this thread. The baby blanket is is very pretty. I can see it being used in the car or a carriage. Your second attempt is coming along nicely. You could go around all sides and make a nice border at this point. Just remember to make increases at each corner.

Sure appreciate all the compliments. Thank you all as it is encouraging. Maura, I'ld like to create a border; however, it is the sides that need more length to them....ummm maybe I mean "width"..... I've run out of the yarn used to create this throw; so not real sure what color/type of yarn to create a border with. Any suggestions? Shellymay, I would definately attempt to put a picture of one of my animals on something; but the how to do so is beyond me....

Get a color that will coordinate with the others. Even black would work. Work each side to get the width you want, then work a couple of inches on the top and bottom.

It's not for a baby, it is larger for the couch. But, the pastel would look nice if she can find it.

Thanks so much for the compliments. You would all laugh if you knew how many times I took it all apart....ROFL Here is the latest "throw". It is a little over 6' long and 4+' wide. I did both sides simultaneously and have no idea how it happened; but one side came out over 6" longer than the other side. Guess what a task that was to fix. LOL Still I'm enjoying this all so much and it is a great help in keeping my spirits up this time of year. This is making use of the "crowfoot" stitch...or is that clawfoot....forgot. Anyway I added the basic stitches in between and bordered it with only a couple of rows of single crochet stitches. I love the colors.

Here are forty...yes 40...granny squares I created out of left-over bits of yarn. Since I received quite a bit of white and cream colored yarn, I went ahead and made each of these granny squares the same size using SC stitches to square them off. Now my project is to connect all these squares so as to form another throw. Not real sure how yet; but will figure it out.

LOVE the spiral!
Use a tapestry needle and a whip stitch to sew the squares together.

Thanks Maura. I'll google to find out what a "whip stitch" is. Nope don't like that stitch as it leaves a ridge. Have been using both crocheting as well as a needle and laying all flat working with stitches so as to not leave any ridges where seams are. Will take picture soon. Here is what I've done so far. You can see I've "crocheted" 4 rows between the squares, then "sewed" half of one square onto the side if the 4th row. Then "sewed" the bottom of the square to the crocheted row beneath it. I THINK I actually used that "whip stitch" modified somewhat so the seam line will lie flat. This is working fine, just quite slow. You can see the coral color at the bottom. It will go all around the completed project and is only one row crocheted. Thus, I'm having to place the granny squares 4 stitches from the two ends so as to leave room for this coral row once all the squares are in. Then I'll simply complete the project with 3 more rows of cream color SC stitches all around connecting this to the coral row. Is this clear as mud?? ROFL

Thanks everyone for the encouragements. Here is the completion of the granny square throw. Have considered putting more around the border; but not sure it truly needs it. Any suggestions? I'm so grateful to those who sent me the yarn and the crochet tools too, especially those stitch holders as I made good use of those while working up this project.

Thanks Feather. You would all have a good laugh if you knew how many times I took out what I put in...ROFL I think I'm learning as much about crocheting from "undoing" as from "doing". ROFL

Hello everyone...Hoping this new year brings all you want it to bring. Here is what I'm creating with the last bits of yarn so many were kind enough to send me. As with the other projects, I've broken it up into pieces so as to keep some type of color coordination to the entire project. Here is a picture of these various parts with some information I hope will help you identify what I'm talking about. Of course none of these parts are connected as yet. This will be a sweater with long sleeves. I'm only using basic stitches for this as I'm not real sure how a "sweater" will turn out. As you can see, I'm creating the sleeves separate, the back and front separate, the shoulders separate and the wrist bands as well as the hems for both front and back separate. I'm thinking I have enough cream colored yarn to finish the front, back and both sleeves as well as to connect all the pieces. ROFL Wish me luck please....

The yellow between the squares looks very nice. I think you should live with it, then decide if it needs another border.
Although I can't really tell the size, I think you need to rethink the neck hole. The front needs to drop from the back at least two inches.

Thanks Maura for the compliment about my granny-square throw.
The neck for the sweater is a "boat-neck". I've connected both sides already with pens just to make sure it would go over my head. It does.
I've just today done most of the front...on both sides...making it wide enough to connect to the front part of the neck/shoulders piece. Then sewed it. I've only "basted" the front to the hem piece. This leaves a few inches on each side that needs to be done on the front in order to be wide enough to extend under my arms, which will make it fit the hem piece. I'm setting this aside until after I complete as much of the back as I did the front and connect it to the back part of the neck/shoulder piece (like I did the front).
I'm just playing the whole thing by ear...so am thinking I will next start crocheting from the hem up (on both the front and back pieces), stopping the length of the rows at my arm pits. Then I can connect the sides of back to the sides of the front and sew on the entire hem. Will this work or am I missing something?
The arms I'm not sure how to do yet, either making the rows lengthwise or going around....Will need to do some more thinking about this...
