Update on recent sweater... Here is what I've done so far with the sweater whose parts are shown above. As you can see, I've completed both the front and back except for the part that goes under the arms; and I've joined the neck/shoulders on both front and back and run some "fur" yarn over the seam. I've also "basted" the hem onto the front and back pieces which shows me how much wider I need to make each. My plan now is to complete the front and back under the arms so they each match the width of the hem. While doing this, I'm considering taking the rows from hem to and around the upper part of each sleeve. OR I'll run a start row from top of shoulder to middle of wrist band...hmmm I think I need to do the hem to shoulder first so as to know how long to make the start row for sleeve as I want to run the rows lengthwise. Any flaws in this thinking???

Updating...
I did add enough rows to complete both back/front under each arm though I've not connected front/back as yet.
Instead I decided to make one side of one sleeve; so I've measured the length needed for the sleeves and have connected a 3+" strip at the shoulder of each sleeve that runs the entire length down to the cuffs. The middle of the cuffs are each basted onto this strip. And I've run a "chain" from the end of the cuff (wrist band) to the arm pit of the sweater. Then I crocheted that chain lengthwise for a few rows to see if it was actually working. It wasn't so I pulled out those rows.
Then I did the same thing only making the chain shorter; and I continued these rows along the underside of the sleeve (one one side) from wrist to armpit. This is looking ok and I think it might work out. However, it is leaving a "V" shape that needs to be filled in between these new rows and the 3+strip mentioned above.
I'm now thinking I can start crocheting "widthwise" now starting at shoulder area (largest part of the "V") and ending at the wrist (smallest part of the "V"). I'm thinking I need to place several strings of yarn (that will not stretch) across this "V" area so as to maintain the correct shape of the "V". Any thoughts about this???
As should be clear to all, I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. Just crocheting this sweater "by the seat of my pants" (so the saying is).. or is that "adlibing"...with yard instead of words...ROFL

Well, this turned out to be a complete mess...and very difficult! So I took it all out... What I'm doing now is this: I've placed what has been done of the arm hole onto a 60-peg rectangular loom. Then I started "knitting" the sleeves in a way that allows the rows to run lengthwise. Here is a picture of what I've done so far...As you can see I'm doing both sides of this one sleeve at the same time starting at the shoulder and running to the wrist. Also notice I've kept the middle strip (already done in the different color) at one end of this loom "loose" as I will "sew" it onto what I'm doing now at a later date...same with the "crocheted" portion of bodice under the arm. I've measured and discovered I'm using a total of 20 pegs (each side) at the arm "hole" and need only 7 pegs (each side) to complete the wrist band (excluding the color strip). Thus I will be "decreasing" the pegs one at a time every 6th row for a total of 13 pegs, leaving only 7 pegs when I get to the wrist. I really don't like the way the "knitted" part is looking matched up with the "crocheted" part; but it sure is a lot neater than what I had done before (and had to take out). I'm learning I have a hard time understanding sleeves...so will need to work with this in the future. For now however, at least I can complete this sweater.

Aww, sorry you had to take it all out. So much work you put into it, but now at least, you'll be proud and happy at the end result!

Here is what the one sleeve I completed looks like...I think it would be looking much better if I had crocheted the bodice at a slant from armpit to shoulder...like line I drew on picture.

Here is this sweater completed. Notice it has a long pocket across most of the front near the hem ..LOL.. just in case I need to warm my hands. LOL This sweater fits nice and loose like I wanted; however, I'm not satisfied with the sleeves...even though they are the correct length and correct width.

Motdaugrnds, I am most impressed by how much you taught yourself in such a short time 😃 and what you've accomplished is simply amazing 👏. You are certainly a creative soul! The sweater takes the cake! I wish you would post a pic of yourself wearing it 🤗
What are you working on now?

Sandsuncritters, thanks for the compliment. Wouldn't want to paste my ugly self on the net.... What I'm doing now and actually just completed is a poncho. A dear friend sent me lots of #6 denim colored Bernat yarn and I watched a YouTube as to how to crochet this poncho...with a large collar. I did change up the design a bit in that I created a couple of places in the sides for my arms to go thru and I've crocheted a "rope-type" belt should I want to put it thru those arm holes and tie it in front. LOL It sure is nice and warm and long enough to wrap in when sitting down. Ran out of yarn so will have to wait a few months before doing anything else significant. However, I still have a few small balls of yarn I can create granny squares, flowers or something out of.
