Does anybody have experience with using a car battery to run lights? Like in a cabin or RV? Is it possible to use one to power a heated water bowl for poultry? I have a battery charger and could charge the battery when needed. Just wondering if it was possible and about how long the charge would last. And of course if it would be safe to do so. Any idea?

Running a few LED lights would be no problem. You can't run anything like a heater for any appreciable amount of time. Electric heaters require too many amps to make it practical.

Thank you, I guessed that too. Sure wish I could find a way to keep some water to my chickens with out electricity.

If you are in a place where it is consistently cold, your chickens will quickly get used to drinking once a day. They may miss one day but not two. You bring them the water and they will fill their crops with enough to last them until the next day.

Here is a thought, and it is just a thought. Would adding vinegar keep the water from freezing? Would it be ok for the chickens to drink? These are just me thinking out loud and are only based on knowing those that came before us used tricks we no longer know.. Again just a thought and I haven't done any research on it.. Who knows if vinegar works, then maybe you can get pickled eggs right from the hen..

Not sure if vinegar would keep from freezing, but it will rust the galvanized waters.

Vinegar will help prevent algae but won't help with freezing. Sugar could but it would take too much to make it cost effective.
Maybe solar would work if you had small containers in a window or enclosed in glass that could provide a limited amount of liquid for a short time.

Moving water doesn't freeze as fast. Could an aquarium bubble filter work? Not in extreme cold but keeping an open space in skim ice?

Unless your coop is a couple hundred yards away from the nearest electrical outlet, just get some cheap 50' or 100' cords.
